As the 2024 U.S. Open Golf® Championship approaches, we’re inviting guests visiting our neighbors at The Home of American Golf to experience Chatham County’s fairways and golf stays.
Whether you’re planning an overnight stay or the ultimate golf getaway, options abound, from budget to luxury, to enjoy your time with us, the views, and the fresh air. Play challenging and championship courses close to cozy bed and breakfast inns, charming cottages, and a variety of restaurants and attractions – all with excellent proximity to Pinehurst, Southern Pines, and the Aberdeen area.
Challenging and Championship Golf Courses
Tournaments, getaway packages, and amateur and professional qualifiers are all part of the golf scene here in our area. We’re proud of our range of courses designed by respected architects Jack Nicklaus, Fred Couples, Davis Love III, and Rees Jones. From public to semi-private to private, there are plentiful opportunities for players of all skill levels – casual, social, or competitive – to enjoy a round or more.
The Triangle’s most exclusive golf club, Old Chatham, recently hosted its first professional event. The final qualifier sent five golfers to this year’s U.S. Open (USGA) championship. Reece Jones designed the private 18-hole course set on 400 acres of pine forest. Members enjoy the highest levels of privacy and service – including a traditional caddie system – and exclusive access to The Birch Cottage for overnight stays and events. Though Old Chatham is a private club, our area offers plenty of other great golfing experiences for nonmembers.
Stay & Play
Siler City Country Club Golf Course stands up to the test of tournament play while offering great experiences for golfers of any skill level. They’ve hosted many amateur tournaments and local qualifiers in years past, including CGA, Carolinas PGA Pro-Am, and NC State High School Championships. Book a room with the Inn at Celebrity Dairy for a convenient overnight stay in their bed and breakfast inn and a taste of their award-winning Chèvre.
Those seeking an all-inclusive golf experience should look no further than Governors Club Golf Course. After an afternoon of playing the Jack Nicklaus signature course, guests can return to The Inn at Governors Club for a relaxing evening and unwind with a casual or fine-dining experience from Gov’s Fusion Cantina, Flair Restaurant & Wine Bar, Sal’s NY Pizza, or the clubhouse’s award-winning Executive Chef and culinary team.
Pittsboro’s first golf course, Chapel Ridge Golf Club, sits on 760 acres of rolling countryside and offers an 18-hole championship course, a fully-stocked golf shop, and a clubhouse with dining at Ridge Grille. Located just outside downtown, the course is only a few minutes from shopping, restaurants, activities, and local bed and breakfasts, including Small B&B and 458 West B&B.
Preserve at Jordan Lake Golf Club is the first and only golf course adjacent to Jordan Lake State Recreation Area. Enjoy a lakeside game on the Davis Love III-designed course followed by a meal at the Grille at The Preserve or one of our many other local eateries. Continue the lakeside experience with a stay at Jordan Lake B&B or Lucky Bar Farm. Those seeking a shorter game that’s still challenging can play the 9-hole course at Twin Lakes Golf Course (the signature hole overlooks the Twin Lakes, hence the name).
The Fearrington House Inn is close to several of our courses, perfect for the luxury traveler desiring a resort-style experience. Dine at the renowned Fearrington House Restaurant, treat yourself to a soothing spa day, and shop McIntyre’s Books, Fearrington Farmers Market, and Dovecote Home and Garden, Nest, and Sprout. Roost Beer Garden will be open for the summer, hosting live music and serving up wood-fired pizzas.
We look forward to helping you plan your golf getaway. Visit Chatham Sports Alliance to find resources for sporting event organizers, participants, and spectators.
