DESCRIPTION

Twin Lakes Golf Course is a public, 9-hole regulation course tucked into rolling Chatham County terrain six miles south of Chapel Hill. Designed by Jack Wilkins, the course plays par 36 from three sets of tees — 6,132 yards from the back, 5,902 from the middle, and 4,818 from the forward — with Penn A-1 bentgrass greens that roll fast and true year-round. Fairways are narrow and tree-lined, with enough elevation change to make club selection an honest question on most holes. The signature is the 6th, a 135-yard par 3 played over a pond to a multi-tiered, well-bunkered green that overlooks the twin lakes the course takes its name from.

The atmosphere is friendly and unhurried. Walking is unrestricted, pull carts are available, and a round here usually goes for the price of a decent lunch. The pro shop rents clubs and equipment and stocks snacks and drinks for the turn. Many regulars play two laps for an effective 18 from a slightly different angle. The course is open year-round and stays playable through North Carolina’s mild winters. Spectators are not permitted on the course.

FEATURES

For visitors, Twin Lakes is the right call when you want golf without ceremony: a quick nine before a Pittsboro afternoon, a casual round with the kids learning the game, or a place to walk while the weather holds. The road signage out front is small, and the entrance is easy to miss. Trust the GPS and use what3words to find your way: https://w3w.co/life.commissions.biopsies.
