The year has undoubtedly changed our work schedules, our routines, spring break, summer escapes, and the school year. Fall is almost here and we are here to help you plan your day trips, road trips, and learning vacations, with safety as the highest priority.
Fall is often a preferred time for travel, as the leaves change color, but it’s also a time that is not always ideal due to school schedules. The unusual times have created opportunities for guests to plan learning vacations and we’re home to some sights that are seasonal, year-round, and reopening safely. A few annual events that offer education as part of the experience are virtual this year, or small and on-site, or a hybrid of the options.
Learning vacations are not just for young individuals. Explore the options and find a class or engaging experience.
Take a virtual break
Join a park ranger from B Everett Jordan Dam and Lake for a free 45-minute online, educational interpretive program. Educators, teachers, and group leaders are welcome to explore the available programs.
Fearrington’s esteemed Wine Team is hosting a number of small on-site and virtual classes. Learn about wines, purchase a wine kit, and savor the sommeliers’ suggestions.
Creativity Sparks is a video series for kids and adults hosted by artist and Chatham County resident, Barbara Hengstenberg. The series is under development and is part of the Bynum Front Porch community’s outreach programming (grant funding from NC AARP). We’ll soon have details for you on this program. The arts, nature, animals, and agriculture are a few of the activities Barbara supports, by leading efforts, working with organizations, and enthusiastically learning about other artists’ work. Find farm fun online with her Piedmont Farm Animal Refuge children’s online activities, which include fact files, animal-themed word search puzzles, and more.
Fall fun and fresh air
Animals, corn mazes, hayrides, and pumpkins are part of the scene for guests visiting this farm, on-site in small groups and with social distancing guidelines in place. The Huckleberry Trail Farm Fall Festival is a tradition and although many events and activities are different this year, time on the farm will still offer plentiful fresh air, views, and space.
Carolina Tiger Rescue offers a mix of online classes and tours, plus virtual field trips. Select one of their current options or talk with them about your preferred experiences.
