Celebrated the last (Travel) Tuesday of the month in January, National Plan for Vacation Day (PVD) gives everyone a new page to consider the adventures to come in the year ahead. No matter the weather, hibernating or hiking, PVD gives us all a chance to banish the winter blues and blahs with a fresh opportunity to dream and create…an itinerary or two or more.
Take in our sights this year, including farms, craft beverage sites, local food and varied cuisines, accommodations offering several amenities, hiking trails, paddling adventures, festivals, and more. Our local industry businesses collaborate with us to share their latest updates, and we’re looking forward to keeping you updated on everything planned for the year ahead, including some new events and places to explore.
TIPS TO GET YOUR PLAN FOR TRAVEL KICKSTARTED
Check in with your CVB. We can share the latest news, specials, updates, events, and activities via email and social media.
Consider the length of your visit and the season. Do you want to take a day trip or stay overnight? Many of our guests travel to our area by car, but if you’re flying into RDU or GSO for a meeting or event, our destination is ideal for a day trip. We’re happy to customize an itinerary for you and provide directions, too.
Keep the climate in mind. Our area businesses are open year-round, but we have many events in spring, fall, and during the holiday season. Some of our local shop owners take the first months of the year to reduce hours of operation. Many are small businesses, so they may take advantage of the July 4 long weekend or when traditional schools are out for summer—check hours through their website and social media. You can always ask us, too.
What’s your preference for activity, or is it none at all? Our destination offers numerous opportunities for travel if you want an active adventure, a low-key respite, or a mix of both, with options ranging from budget to luxury.
What is your preference for the type of stay? A home for you to have a full kitchen and seclusion to work, cook, and enjoy a combination of work and play? An inn amidst a working farm or one within walking distance of shops, bakeries, eateries, and craft beverages? A luxury stay at an accommodation with several rooms, all completely different from one another, within a setting similar to a village in the English countryside? A hotel with a fridge, microwave, and hot breakfast that offers convenient access to local amenities? Or, maybe, you have an RV or prefer to camp beneath the stars with waterside activities and hiking trails nearby?
Everyone is welcome—solo travelers, nature lovers, families, foodies, couples, cyclists, paddlers, groups, meeting and event planners, sports enthusiasts, and more. No matter your plans, we look forward to sharing tips and updates with you in the year ahead to help you plan the long weekends, road trips, and dream vacations.
