
Introduction to the Art of Bonsai

Join For Garden’s Sake for Introduction to the Art of Bonsai on Sat, Mar 22, 10am-11am. This engaging class is for those interested in learning about this fascinating horticultural art form. The class and hands-on workshop will teach the aesthetic aspects of classical bonsai and the technical and horticultural fundamentals you’ll need to enjoy this wonderful hobby. The class will cover bonsai styles, design, pruning, wiring, container selection, potting, and care.
Instructor Ken Hallatt is a bonsai artist, educator, and owner of Carolina Bonsai. He has over 40 years of experience, has trained with many gifted international bonsai artists, and enjoys sharing this “growing art” with others. He was previously the President of the Triangle Bonsai Society.
The fee for this class is $80 per person and includes all workshop materials you’ll need to create your very own bonsai, an introductory bonsai book, a detailed aftercare guide for your new tree, and light horse d’oeuvres. Payment at the time of registration is required to hold your spot. Registration without payment will be disregarded. All classes are nonrefundable. To receive a credit towards another class, you must email at least 24 hours prior. Canceling within the 24-hour window forgoes the ability to transfer your credits. Classes may be canceled by the garden due to low sign-ups or inclement weather. A class canceled by For Garden’s Sake will receive a credit for use within the current calendar year (2025).
