Founded in 2005 and owned by husband-and-wife team Nancy Irelan and Michael Schnelle, the estate crafts expressive, precision-focused wines that reflect the unique climate and geology of its vineyards. ABOUT NANCY IRELAN
Nancy Irelan is the co-owner and winemaker of Red Tail Ridge Winery, one of the Finger Lakes’ most innovative and sustainability-driven wine producers. With over 35 years of experience in the wine industry, Nancy brings a rare combination of scientific expertise, global perspective, and creative viticultural vision to her work. She holds a Ph.D. in grape genetics from the University of California, Davis, where she studied under leading researchers in viticulture and enology. Early in her career, Nancy spent more than a decade at E&J Gallo Winery, ultimately serving as Vice President of Viticulture & Enology R&D, where she led research and innovation efforts that informed large-scale production practices and varietal performance.
