The Velvet Beat is a Chapel Hill–based jump blues, soul, and funk band delivering upbeat, dance-forward grooves rooted in classic R&B. Drawing from the Louis Jordan, Ray Charles, and early Motown tradition, the band blends tight rhythms, swinging sax, and soulful vocals into a sound that keeps crowds moving. Whether it’s a packed room or an outdoor crowd, The Velvet Beat brings high energy, musical polish, and a feel-good vibe built for live audiences.

There is no cover for music, but tips for the musicians are encouraged. Most events are rain or shine; if they have to cancel, they will do so as far in advance as possible.
