Intermediate Beekeeper Course

Join the Chatham County Beekeepers Association for an in-person, one-day Intermediate Beekeeper Course on Sat, Jan 31, 8am-5:30pm at the Chatham County Agriculture & Conference Center (CCACC).  The primary audience for the school is beekeepers with at least one year of beekeeping experience. This course is designed to help local beekeepers advance their knowledge and to increase the number of skilled beekeepers in the region. The course will be taught by a group of beekeepers who are not only subject matter experts but also have several years of practical knowledge and experience on the topics presented. At the conclusion of this one-day class, participants will have received education regarding relevant beekeeping topics that will enable them to be better beekeepers and prepare them for advanced-level testing.

The cost is $75 for an individual attendee. Register online by completing this form and submitting it along with your payment. Registration closes at midnight on Wed, Dec 31, and no refunds will be given for cancellations after this date. The course schedule is as follows:

  • 8am: Registration opens.
  • 8:30am-10am: Honeybee Anatomy, Physiology, and Pheromones with Valarie Pallatto.
  • 10am-10:15am: Break.
  • 10:15am-11:45am: Queen Rearing for the Backyard Beekeeper with Jennifer Keller.
  • 11:45am-12:15pm: Lunch.
  • 12:15pm-1:30pm: Honeybee Pests – Varroa with Phil Uptmor.
  • 2:45pm-3pm: Break.
  • 3pm-4:15pm: Seasonal Management: Splitting and Swarm Control with Jody Moore of Rocky River Bees.
  • 4:15pm-5:30pm: Honey Production/Products of the Hive with Mike Smith.

This class takes place indoors in Hall A of CCACC. The space is ADA-compliant. Free parking is available on-site. No pets allowed. See more events at the Chatham County Agriculture & Conference Center.
