DESCRIPTION

Jordan Lake State Recreation Area is North Carolina’s most popular state park, welcoming 2.2 million visitors in 2024. Explore 4,500+ acres of woodlands, the 14,000-acre reservoir, and fifteen miles of hiking trails, with over a thousand campsites available across seven access points. Activities include boating, hiking, swimming, paddling, sailing, birding, beach volleyball, and much more. There are 1,050 campsites open year-round, from primitive campsites to RV hookups. You may be lucky enough to spot a Bald Eagle from the observation deck at B. Everett Jordan Lake Dam, Tailrace, and Visitor Assistance Center.

North Carolina’s most popular State Park, home to miles of hiking trails, several sites along the NC Birding Trail, 1,000+ campsites, and tons of activities: boating, swimming, fishing, paddling, beach volleyball, and much more. Please note that Poe’s Ridge boat ramp is managed by the US Army Corps of Engineers, and Farrington Point boat ramp is managed by the NC Wildlife Resources Commission. Please check with the relevant agencies for the most up-to-date information on those facilities.

HOURS

Entrance fees are charged per vehicle on weekends and holidays in April, May, and September, and daily from Memorial Day to Labor Day. The park is free for day use the rest of the year. Fees are also charged for camping, certain event permits, and facility reservations. Jordan Lake’s day-use area gates and campground gates open and lock promptly at the posted times. No entry or exit is permitted when the gates are closed, except for law enforcement or medical emergencies.

DAY USE HOURS

Open seven days a week with the following seasonal schedule:

  • November-February: 8am-6pm.
  • March-April, September-October: 8am-8pm.
  • May-August: 8am-9pm.

Not all day-use areas are open year-round. Please check the park’s operating season schedule for dates. The park is closed on Christmas Day but open all other holidays.

CAMPGROUND HOURS

Crosswinds and Poplar Point campground gates have 24-hour access. Parkers Creek, Vista Point, and New Hope Overlook campground gates lock at the posted times below:

  • November-February: 8am-8pm.
  • March-April, October: 8am-9pm.
  • May-September: 8am-10pm.

VISITOR CENTER HOURS

The visitor center is closed during the following state-designated holidays: Thanksgiving Day and Black Friday; Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and the day after Christmas (including any Saturdays and Sundays in between); and New Year’s Day. The dates of these state holidays are available on the N.C. Office of State Human Resources website.

  • November-February, Monday-Friday: 8am-4:30pm; Closed Saturday and Sunday.
  • March-October, Monday-Sunday, 8am-4:30pm.

ACCESSIBILITY

Jordan Lake State Recreation Area offers accessible campsites and swimming areas. More details on accessibility in state parks are available here.

PETS

Pets are allowed at the park and at campsites. They are not permitted on swim beaches or inside buildings. Pets must be on an attended leash of no longer than 6 feet at all times. Trash cans are available at public access points, but please plan to bring bags and pick up after your pet.

AMENITIES

Not every access has all the listed facilities. Please refer to the General Information page to view a table of facilities for each access point.

  • 1050 total campsites with gravel parking pads, including 601 campsites with partial hookups (water and electric), 11 group campsites, and 24 primitive/tent sites. Includes trailer and RV sites, as well as group RV camping. Maximum number of 6 people per campsite.
  • Water and electric hookups with 30-amp service.
  • Boating ramps and boat parking.
  • Dump stations and sewage disposal.
  • Fire rings and firewood are available.
  • Flush toilets and showers (hot water and cold water only, depending on the campground site).
  • 15 miles of hiking trails.
  • Picnic tables and shelters, with capacities ranging from 30 to 100. White Oak Outdoor Shelter Area accommodates 600 people.
  • Swimming beaches.
  • Fishing piers.
  • Beach volleyball courts.
  • Playgrounds.
  • Amphitheater, auditorium, and classrooms.
