Jean’s Neighborhood Market started in 1980 as a seasonal pick-your-own strawberry patch and has grown, slowly and on its own terms, into a year-round family market in Chatham County. The strawberries are still here — the farm’s namesake crop, picked from the same fields each spring — but they’ve been joined by the kind of inventory you only find when a family runs the place themselves.
Fresh local produce rotates with the seasons: peaches, sweet corn, and tomatoes in summer; squash, peppers, and cantaloupe in late summer; root vegetables as the year turns. The bakery case carries pies, breads, and pound cakes the regulars know by name: Becky’s Pound Cake, Wanda’s Butter Pecan Bread, Joy’s Buckeyes, and Fudge. Jean’s homemade vanilla ice cream comes with house-made fudge or caramel topping. Local honey, jams and jellies, and a small selection of North Carolina-made gifts round out the shelves.
The market shares grounds with Ragan and Holly’s Pumpkin Patch, which opens each fall with gourds, pumpkins, corn stalks, and seasonal decorating items. Wagons full of kids, photos in the field, decorations stacked into the back of the car.
The property sits on NC Highway 751 just east of Jordan Lake; it has an Apex mailing address but is located in Chatham County. It’s open seven days a week. Call during peak season for strawberry ripeness updates and pre-picked availability.
