DESCRIPTION

Originally constructed in 1908, Camelback Truss Bridge spans the Deep River. It underwent many reconstructions and renovations between then and 1992 and is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places and the North Carolina Transportation Hall of Fame. Deep River Park and Camelback Truss Bridge is a 4-acre property that sits on the Chatham County-Lee County line and provides scenic views, wonderful picnicking spots, and canoeing and kayaking (primitive) access. The bridge is lighted at night.

Tubing, canoeing, and kayaking (primitive) put-in is located where hwy 421 crosses the Deep River (w3w: ///points.pelicans.trickled). Take-out is at Deep River Park (adjacent to NC 2153 over Deep River, Cumnock-Gulf) – there is a concrete ramp on the left side of the river. This paddle includes scenic views and the opportunity to paddle under two old train bridges. Paddle time is approximately 1.5 hours. Double your trip time and put-in at McIver Landing (w3w: ///stroke.foods.mused). Pack for a picnic with provisions from our local stores and shops. The local general store, JR Moore & Son, is nearby.
