The Basics of Food and Wine Pairing
October 30 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm
Vino!!’s next Wine Education 101 Class, The Basics of Food and Wine Pairing, will take place Wed, Oct 30, 6pm-7pm. Level II Sommelier Dom DeCastro will walk you through choosing the right wine for the right meal.
Though challenging, knowledge of food and wine pairings can change a great dining experience into a spectacular one! To make proper food and wine pairings, one must understand how the characteristics of a dish play a role in making memorable wine pairings – and vice versa. Wine flavors are derived from specific components: sugar, acid, fruit, tannin, and alcohol. Foods also have flavor components, such as fat, acid, salt, sugar, and bitter. The most successful food and wine pairings feature complementary components, richness, and textures.
At this seminar, Dom DeCastro will teach you the basic skills of food and wine pairing through an interactive tasting of several wines paired with dishes prepared by local chef Robin Hamilton. The seminar will also include food and wine combos that do not work as a way to help illustrate the importance of food and wine pairing rules. If you are interested in learning more about food and wine pairings and want to walk away with the ability to impress at your next dining outing, reserve your spot for this seminar by calling 919.542.3922 or email [email protected]. Space is limited to 46 people. The cost is $40 per person and includes admission to the class (a tasting of six wines and a plate of food to pair with them) plus one pre-selected bottle of wine to take home with you.
