Sat, Sep 9, 9am-12:30pm Sidewalk Chalk Festival
Location: The Park at Briar Chapel
Age Range: 5+

Cost: Free
Come express your creativity and create a masterpiece at the third annual Sidewalk Chalk Festival. All artists – amateur and professional alike – are invited to draw their chalk creations and spend the morning in the park enjoying the artwork, a coffee station from Carolina Craving, music, and other vendor stations. Check-in begins at 8:30am, artists will draw from 9am-11am, and awards begin at 11:30am. Artists are encouraged to preregister online, but registration will also be available on-site, the day of the event. A tabletop drawing option is available upon request for those who are not able to draw on the ground.

Location: Woods Charter Parking Lot
Age Range: 9-14

Cost: Free (preregistration required)
Come learn how to find edible plants in the wild. During this foraging walk you will learn to identify which plants can provide a tasty treat, and which ones to avoid.

Location: Farrington Point Boat Ramp
Age Range: 10+
Registration Deadline: Fri, Sep 15
Cost: $30
Come learn the basics of canoeing and kayaking while going on a sunset trip around Jordan Lake. Participants will meet at Farrington Point Boat Ramp. No experience is needed. All supplies provided.

Sat, Oct 7, 9am-10am Composting at Home
Location: Chatham Grove Community Center
Age Range: 18+
Registration Deadline: Mon, Oct 2
Cost: Free (preregistration required)
Have you wanted to learn how to compost but felt you did not have enough time, or it was too confusing? In this class, you will explore the hows and whys of composting. Learn how to compost at home, how it benefits your garden, and why it helps the environment.

Movies in the park

Join Chatham County Parks & Recreation at The Park at Briar Chapel on Friday nights throughout fall for a free outdoor movie night! They will be showing family-friendly movies that will start at sunset. Bring your chairs, blankets, movie snacks, and friends, and enjoy a movie under the stars.
