October 5 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
The Triangle Swim Series Championship aka the 10th Annual Triangle Open Hurricane Swim, will be held Sat, Oct 5, 8am-5pm at Vista Point Access at Jordan Lake State Recreation Area. The exact address is 3100 North Pea Ridge Road, Pittsboro, NC 27312. There are 1K, 1-mile, and 2-mile options. The last day to sign up is Thu, Oct 3. There is no race day/onsite registration available.
- 1-mile – $43 until 1 month prior; $48 until 2 days prior.
- 2-mile – $53 until 1 month prior; $58 until 2 days prior.
- 1K – $22 until 2 days prior.
The packet pick-up area is adjacent to the parking lot in the grassy field near the beach/sailboat launching area (not at the shelter as in years past). They will start at around 6:45am. Event T-shirts are guaranteed to swimmers who sign up by Sat, Sep 21. You must be present to pick up your T-shirt. The course map can be found here. This is a triangular, clockwise swim with an in-water start at the boat docks. All right-shoulder turns. All buoys must be on your right side, including the interim sighting buoys (minimizing cross-traffic issues with the 0.6-mile swimmers). To finish, you will need to exit the water and run/walk up the boat ramp to cross the timing mat.
WEATHER & SAFETY
In the case of inclement weather, they will delay the swim start up to 45 minutes. They will only cancel the swim if absolutely necessary for the safety of the swimmers. No refunds or transfers will be issued in case of cancellation due to weather. If the temperature allows, you may use snorkels, swim safety devices, and wetsuits. You may not use fins, pull buoys, or hand paddles. For their swims, wetsuits are permitted when the temperature is below 78 degrees and not permitted at 78 and above. The late September water temperature can be anywhere from the low 70s to the low 80s. You can keep track of Jordan Lake water temperatures here: http://epec.saw.usace.army.mil/bejrept.txt. You must be 10+ to compete in the .6-miler, 12 or older to compete in the 1+ mile swims, and 14 or older to compete in the 2+ mile swims. Exceptions may be made for advanced AG swimmers; please email the RD.
They will have a number of kayakers, paddleboarders, and lifeguards out on the course. You may stop and take a break at a kayak or board as needed. Please give these folks a shout or wave if you are having any problems at any point. They are there to help you. They also have professional emergency water rescue crews on the water in case you need to leave the water and EMS on the land.
PARKING
Park in the large lot near the start area or the adjacent shelter lot. There will be volunteer parking attendants directing you. The parking fee is included with your entry fee, however, if you or your friends and family arrive after 7:30am, you may have to pay a $6 entry fee (cash only). If you’re competing, please arrive no later than 7:15am so that you can get situated. Please do NOT park on the side of the road anywhere within the park boundaries. You could block emergency vehicles, and you will be towed.
