S & T’s Soda Shoppe

DESCRIPTION

Part of downtown Pittsboro, which includes a variety of quaint shops and good restaurants, family-owned S & T’s Soda Shoppe is a place where visitors will enjoy a handspun shake, good food, and southern hospitality, all while reminiscing about the past. Embracing a faithful recreation of the soda shoppe experience one might have found in the mid 20th century, the Oldham family faithfully restored this former pharmacy and transformed the space into a nostalgic, family-friendly eatery for lunch, dinner, and classic ice cream desserts.

There are nods to the building’s history throughout the soda shoppe, including a beautiful wooden case sourced from a drugstore in Mebane and filled with antique pharmaceutical bottles and equipment. The menu includes hot dogs, burgers, sandwiches, appetizers, egg creams, milkshakes, sundaes, and at least 32 flavors of ice cream at any given time. They’re best known by locals for The Rathskeller’s Gambler and “bowl of cheese” Lasagna, as well as massive banana splits that never fail to draw delighted comments from new patrons.

S & T’s Soda Shoppe is open for dine-in and take-out. Groups are welcome, and private dining is available; a downstairs private room accommodates up to 20 guests, and the upstairs accommodates at least 50. The restaurant is usually busy, especially on Fridays and Saturdays; large groups should call and make reservations in advance to ensure availability. The downstairs is wheelchair accessible, including entrances, parking, restrooms, and seating. The second floor is not wheelchair accessible.
