SUMMARY:Wine Class – Blind Tasting 101
DESCRIPTION:Join Fearrington Village for a Wine Class – Blind Tasting 101 on Thu\, Feb 5\, 6pm-7pm. During this unique\, interactive\, and educational session\, you’ll learn about classic wines! Many people have heard of sommeliers’ blind wine tastings and the mystique that comes with the skill set. Fearrington is here to tell you it’s not that hard! We all have similar physical abilities as tasters; it’s just a matter of being shown the mental pathways that wine professionals take when tasting selections. \nThe real motivation behind blind tasting is not to impress a roomful of people with your crazy\, spot-on guess. Trained Sommeliers still make wrong guesses all the time! The reason is that it makes you a better taster\, breaking down the why and the how without any preconceptions about what is in the glass. You’ll be tasting 3 reds and 3 whites from classic regions. This will be a very fun and informative class led by Fearrington Wine Director Troy Revell. \nA few small bites from Chef Gagne are included\, and wines tasted will be available for purchase at the end of the event. The class will take place on the Terrace behind The Fearrington House Restaurant. This $75 all-inclusive wine class is non-refundable. If your plans have changed\, please feel free to send a lucky friend in your place! Just send Fearrington an email with their name or have them bring your confirmation email. \nFearrington Village is part of the Chatham County Craft Beverages & Country Inns Trail. SUMMARY:Wine Dinner: Authentique Vin

Fearrington House Restaurant proudly welcomes French importer Thomas Meunier\, owner of Authentique Vin. \nMany in the area will know Thomas from his time living in Carrboro. Currently\, he lives with his family in France and focuses on bringing small-production\, family-owned wines from France to America. Chef Paul Gagne will pair a memorable five-course dinner menu with seven stellar wines. \nTickets are limited. This event is $195 per person ($255 total with tax and service). If you want overnight accommodations\, please contact Fearrington House Inn at 919.542.2121. Please note: they cannot refund ticket purchases. If your plans have changed\, please feel free to send a lucky friend in your place – just send an email with their name or have them bring your confirmation email. See more events at Fearrington Village. Fearrington Village is part of the Chatham County Craft Beverages & Country Inns Trail. \nAUTHENTIQUE VIN AND THOMAS MEUNIER \nAuthentique Vin is an importer of family-produced French wines serving the Southeast US. Initially based in Carrboro\, NC\, owner Thomas Meunier currently lives in France with his family so he can be close at hand with the winemakers with whom he works. \n“I started my journey in the wine world over 20 years ago in my native region of the Loire Valley. During 6 vintages\, I worked at a biodynamic winery in Saint Nicolas de Bourgueil\, growing Cabernet Franc and Chenin Blanc. This experience\, deep in the heart of a winemaker family\, shaped my philosophy of wine and kept me humble until this day. When building my portfolio\, my quest has always been to find life in the wines I pick\, this vibrancy that makes each bottle a revelation. I know through my experience in the vines that when you respect nature\, it delivers in the bottle and makes each wine unique because it shows the sense of a place. \nI have kept this understanding first while building my selection\, finding true winegrowers that make no concessions with distinctive personalities while Organic certification is not a mandatory criterion to be part of my portfolio\, even though 3/4 of my selection is\, I firmly believe that only the organic path is the one to quality\, delivering better grapes\, offering the best natural balance of the fruit components. I share with my friends winemakers the belief that wine is made in the vineyard and that 90% of the vigneron’s job is done when you bring the ripest grapes in the cellar. I believe in natural wines made with native yeasts and no additives\, but also that sulfites is not our enemy if used with minimal doses after the fermentation… I know each winemaker of my portfolio personally\, have built strong ties and friendship with them\, we grow together sharing this search for excellence by always questioning ourselves to do better.”

Over 20 years later\, Raffaldini Wines has planted more than 32 acres of Italian varietal grapes (many of which are unique and were the first of their kind on the East Coast). Raffaldini is the foremost practitioner of the Italian Appassimento drying process in the United States and continues to dry more fruit than any vineyard in the country. As they further develop the use of this ancient technique\, they are able to refine the drying process to be more specific to the grape varietal and now dry all of their grapes\, including their whites. \nJay Raffaldini is also a founding member and President of the NC Fine Wines Association. He commutes from his home in North Carolina to his offices around the world and enjoys managing both his hedge fund business and Raffaldini Vineyards.
