SUMMARY:Haw River Lowlands Hike
DESCRIPTION:Join Friends of the Lower Haw for the third event in their “Take a Walk on the Wild Side” hiking series with a Haw River Lowlands Hike on Mon\, Jun 22\, 6pm-7pm at Lower Haw River State Natural Area. Outdoor NC Guide & Haw River native Ben Clarke and his trusty dog Rocco will guide you along this lovely 2-mile round-trip loop evening hike along the east bank of the Haw between Highway 64 and the start of Jordan Lake. You’ll cross several creeks\, pass some of the river’s most famous rapids\, and marvel at unique sights like the cactus boulder and cedar rock! \nDIRECTIONS \n\nFrom Pittsboro: Take US 64 East toward Apex. Slow down on the bridge crossing the Haw River. Immediately after crossing the river\, there is a small gravel parking area on the right. Parking is limited. For your safety\, do not park along the highway.\nFrom Apex: Take US 64 west\, headed towards Pittsboro. After crossing over the Haw River\, make a U-turn at the first left and head east on US 64 back over the Haw River. Slow down on the bridge crossing the Haw River. Immediately after crossing the river\, there is a small gravel parking area on the right.\n\nParking is limited. For your safety\, do not park along the highway. Please wear sturdy shoes for walking on uneven ground and bring adequate water. Friendly dogs are welcome on leash! DESCRIPTION:The 2026 77th U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship comes to Old Chatham Golf Club\, Mon\, Jul 13–Sat\, 18\, bringing one of golf’s oldest national titles to the Triangle for the first time.  \nMany Girls’ Junior champions\, including Mickey Wright\, JoAnne Gunderson Carner\, Hollis Stacy\, Nancy Lopez\, Amy Alcott\, Inbee Park\, Lexi Thompson\, Minjee Lee\, Ariya Jutanugarn\, and Rose Zhang\, earned this title as teenagers before going pro. The 2026 champion gains an exemption into the 2027 U.S. Women’s Open and an invitation to the Augusta National Women’s Amateur\, meaning this year’s winner could be competing on the LPGA Tour within a few seasons. \nOld Chatham has a Durham mailing address but sits in Chatham County on the northeast shore of Jordan Lake. The field of 156 plays two days of stroke play (July 13–14) before the cut to 64 for match play\, building to a 36-hole final on Saturday\, July 18. Old Chatham is a Rees Jones design that opened in 2001 and is set on 400 acres of protected pine woodlands. Spectators walk corridors of mature loblolly pine\, with Jordan Lake State Recreation Area just beyond the property line. \nLogistics\nThe USGA will post ticketing\, parking\, shuttle\, and ADA accessibility details\, including accessible viewing areas and transportation accommodations on request\, on the official championship page as the event approaches. \nVolunteer\nUSGA championships rely on hundreds of volunteers\, with shifts available in standard-bearing\, marshaling\, transportation\, hospitality\, scoring\, and player services.
