SUMMARY:Trails and Treats
DESCRIPTION:Join Chatham Community Library and Friends of the Lower Haw for Trails and Treats on Sat\, May 2\, 10am-11am. Trails and Treats is the first statewide trail guide written by women in NC\, combining two favorite activities – hiking and trail running – with tasty treats that can top off your outdoor adventures. Authors Hollis Oberlies and Palmer McIntyre created this guidebook for people of all ages and abilities who want to plan a fun day exploring our state. They have selected hikes and runs in four general areas of the state – the mountains\, the Triad\, the Triangle\, and the Charlotte area. Often\, there is a trail near your home that will bring joy and gratitude\, and a workout if that’s your goal. The authors have included trail tips to help you plan your adventures\, as well as recommendations for some tasty local places to eat. Their book also includes some of their favorite breakfast and trail snack recipes that are easy to whip up\, tasty\, and nourishing. The authors hope this guide inspires you to try these trails and eats\, and to explore others throughout North Carolina or wherever you go! \nBecause 2026 is the 20th Anniversary of the Haw River Trail\, this event will include a brief presentation by Friends of Lower Haw River about the Haw River State Trail and Chatham County’s local gem\, the Lower Haw River State Natural Area. Friends of Lower Haw River is a member of the trail organizations Friends of Haw River State Trail and the Great Trails State Coalition. The event is free and open to the public. This program is part of the Lower Haw Presents lecture series hosted by Friends of Lower Haw River and co-sponsored by the Chatham Community Library. See more Chatham Sports Alliance Events.

SUMMARY:Kenda Kist - Spring 2026 Trunk Show
DESCRIPTION:Fri\, May 1-Sat\, May 2\, 10am-5pm\, Dovecote will host designer Kenda Kist as part of their Spring 2026 Trunk Show series – perfect for Mother’s Day! Kenda Kist jewelry blends fine materials with thoughtful\, artful design to create pieces that feel both modern and meaningful. Each creation emphasizes quality craftsmanship\, whether it’s a delicately sculpted necklace\, a refined bracelet\, or a standout ring. The line speaks to customers who want jewelry that feels personal and expressive without being overly ornate — pieces that elevate everyday outfits and also hold their own for special occasions. \nDovecote Home and Garden\, Nest\, and Sprout in Fearrington Village hosts trunk shows that afford one-on-one time with designers and opportunities to shop beyond their store offerings. Trunk Shows give you the chance to see an entire collection\, not just what they bring in for the store\, which means it is the only time that some sizes and colors are available in certain styles. Chatting with a rep or designer – the experts – gives you the best insight into what styles and sizes are perfect for you\, so you can be sure you’re getting pieces that you’ll treasure forever. As the evening goes on\, the couple ends up in a heated argument that sends Asa to sleep out in their garage apartment for the first time in twenty-five years of marriage. The next morning\, he wakes to blue sky and an altered world.    \nUnfolding over a few tense weeks and told from multiple points of view\, this novel explores how a tragedy can assume as many shapes as the people it touches. Asa finds himself reckoning with torn feelings about his marriage and confusion about how to proceed in his complicated relationships with his adult children. As he gradually absorbs revelations—so much he didn’t know or understand during his long marriage—he finds himself drawn uneasily toward a new world\, one in which he must shed much of his old identity if he is to survive and\, more important\, rededicate himself to being a father.  \nAUTHOR BIO \nTommy Hays is an acclaimed Southern writer\, whose fiction grows out of his emotional connections to places he’s lived and known—Greenville\, South Carolina; Asheville\, North Carolina; and Atlanta. His novels are The Pleasure Was Mine\, In the Family Way\, Sam’s Crossing\, and YA novel What I Came to Tell You. He has published stories\, profiles\, and book reviews in magazines\, newspapers\, and literary journals such as Redbook\, Our State\, The Atlanta Constitution\, The Charlotte Observer\, Smoky Mountain Living\, Still: The Journal\, The Chattahoochee Review\, and storySouth. The winner of many literary awards\, he is the founder and former Executive Director of the Great Smokies Writing Program\, UNC Asheville’s community writing program\, as well as Lecturer Emeritus in the Master of Liberal Arts program.

SUMMARY:Nora Gaskin\, Lammy Loves Cubby

Free parking is available on-site. The space is wheelchair accessible. No pets allowed. Fearrington Village is part of the Chatham County Craft Beverages & Country Inns Trail. Lammie Timmons got the best news of her life on a Monday morning. Cubby Tatum\, the man she had loved since she was five years old\, was coming home to Littleboro after twenty years away. Could a series of small fires that escalate have anything to do with the two reuniting? Arson investigator Maureen and self-proclaimed knight errant Joe make an equally odd couple who set out to follow the smoldering trail of clues and solve the mystery. \nAUTHOR BIO \nNora Gaskin is a lifelong resident of the Durham-Chapel Hill area. She has a bachelor’s degree in English with Honors in Creative Writing from UNC\, and a Master’s in English from the University of Washington in Seattle. She spent more than 24 years as a stockbroker and financial advisor with a major investment firm\, working in the Durham office. She retired in 2005 to focus on writing. She lives and writes in Chatham County\, inspired by her native landscape\, her husband\, and her dogs. Her favorite word is “gratitude.”

SUMMARY:Twilight Tours at Carolina Tiger Rescue
DESCRIPTION:Carolina Tiger Rescue’s popular Twilight Tours run from March through October (Daylight Saving Time) on Friday\, Saturday\, and Sunday evenings. Tours are for adults only (guests ages 18 years and older). Twilight tours are a more intimate experience to meet CTR’s animals. During these tours\, guests are the only visitors in the sanctuary. The work of the day is done\, and the guests have the sanctuary all to themselves. Enjoy a quiet evening with the cats\, and you might just be lucky enough to be serenaded by the lions!  After all\, they are still wild animals!  As with all their tours\, they cannot guarantee what the cats will do\, but it’s hard to have a bad evening with the animals. \nThe 2026 schedule will begin on Sun\, Mar 8\, and run through Sat\, Oct 31. The timeframe provided in this event listing is an estimate – please check your tickets for the exact time slot. Your Twilight Tour will last for about 1 ½ hours. Please arrive 15 minutes early. Trained volunteer tour guides will walk you through the animal sanctuary. You will learn about the various species living at Carolina Tiger Rescue and the challenges they face in the wild\, as well as the difficulties they encounter in captivity. You will have the opportunity to ask questions and take photos\, but please note that there will be no physical contact with the animals. \nAdvance tickets are required for attendees (no walk-ins available). Tours are offered from April to October on Friday\, Saturday\, and Sunday evenings\, rain or shine. The cost is $32 per person\, and a maximum of 25 people may attend each tour. Tickets are available 8 weeks before your visit. \nSee more events at Carolina Tiger Rescue. \nBEFORE YOU VISIT \nThere are several things CTR would like you to know before booking your tour. Please reach the information below before purchasing your tickets: \n\nAll tours go out rain or shine. In the event of an extreme weather event\, Carolina Tiger Rescue will contact guests to inform them if a cancellation is necessary.\nPhotos may be taken during your tour after you’ve signed your visitor release.\nThe Education Center is wheelchair-accessible; however\, the gravel and grass paths may be more challenging to navigate for individuals with mobility impairments. Golf carts are available to assist guests as needed. If you have accessibility concerns\, please call 919.542.4648 to make arrangements before your visit.\nGPS may not provide accurate directions to CTR’s location. They recommend using the directions from their website to ensure a successful arrival.\nCTR does not allow outside animals anywhere on the property. Please leave your pets at home.

SUMMARY:Planting for Pollinators
DESCRIPTION:Join For Garden’s Sake for Planting for Pollinators on Sun\, May 3\, 1pm-2pm at The Robin’s Nest. Transform your garden into a vibrant\, buzzing sanctuary for the creatures that keep our ecosystem thriving. This class is designed to help you look at your garden through the eyes of the wildlife that depends on it. FGS will feature common Piedmont pollinators\, from native bees and delicate butterflies to the high-energy hummingbirds that frequent our yards. They’ll explore the pollination process\, as well as the specific life cycles and nutritional needs of these vital species. Understanding these rhythms is the secret to moving beyond a “pretty” garden to a truly functional\, life-sustaining one. \nWhether you are starting with a blank slate or looking to enhance an established landscape\, you’ll leave with a curated list of native plants that provide high-impact support for our local winged friends. You will gain the foundational knowledge needed to foster a bird- and bee-friendly habitat right in your own backyard\, ensuring your garden is a place where nature can truly flourish. Come ready to learn how a few intentional choices can make a world of difference for our local environment.  \nInstructor Jeanne Arnts is a Durham County Extension Master Gardener and NC Journeyman Beekeeper and has certificates in Native Plants from the NC Botanical Garden and Bird Friendly Habitat Committee of the New Hope Bird Alliance. \nThe cost is $15 per person and includes a small gift and a coupon to shop at the Garden Center. Free parking is available on-site. See more events at For Garden’s Sake.

SUMMARY:Y12SR Meetings with Jaime Warkonyi
DESCRIPTION:Join Yoga Garden PBO for Y12SR Meetings with Jaime Warkonyi hosted on the first Sunday of every month\, 4pm-6pm. Y12SR is an innovative addiction relapse prevention program that combines the wisdom of yoga with the practical tools of 12-Step recovery programs. Guided by its theme “The Issues Live In the Tissues\,” Y12SR meetings are held across the U.S. and internationally\, rapidly becoming a recognized component of addiction recovery treatment centers. \nEach meeting consists of both a 12-Step-inspired sharing circle and a guided yoga practice\, incorporating movement (asana)\, breathwork (pranayama)\, and meditation—an approach described as “taking it to the mats.” The yoga practice is designed to be accessible to individuals of all body types and experience levels. Open to those struggling with addiction as well as their loved ones\, Y12SR serves as a complement rather than a substitute for traditional addiction recovery programs. Committed to the principles of safety and anonymity\, Y12SR provides a supportive space for healing and connection. \nHandicapped parking and a ramp are available in the back of the Yoga Garden studio. By donation\, a portion of proceeds will be donated to Second Bloom of Chatham. See more events at Yoga Garden PBO.
