SUMMARY:Forest Tinkering Camp
DESCRIPTION:Forest Tinkering Camp at Sun Star Farm is a small group of 12 campers led by 2 counselors. Forest Tinkering Camp is very different from Tinkering School’s format.  Campers spend most of the day in the forest based in the camp’s new shelter\, learning and developing a variety of outdoor skills: flint-knapping to make arrowheads\, chopping wood for daily campfires used for cooking\, gathering native plants\, making fishing nets\, building a water filtration system\, whittling sticks into tools\, improving in archery\, and telling stories of yesteryear. As for projects\, they will be mostly individual.  Campers will need a certain level of maturity and be able to follow instructions to work and play safely in this environment. \nThey save 4 spots for girls during the registration period\, so they end up with a nice ratio of boys to girls.  If any of the “girl” spots are not taken by March 1st\, they open them to boys on the waitlist. There is a 6:1 counselor-to-camper ratio. This camp is for children ages 9-12. \nCamp is $499/week. Early care starts at 8am and is $35/week. Aftercare runs from 3pm-5:30pm and is $125/week. A monthly payment plan is available at checkout. Pay only a $75 non-refundable deposit now to secure your spot. DESCRIPTION:Tinkering School NC at Sun Star Farm is a small group of 12 campers led by 2 counselors and a 3rd counselor during peak building times. Once they cover skills and safety\, campers collaborate to create an awesome large-scale project based on a theme chosen late Monday/Tuesday morning\, depending on skill level\, interest\, and weather conditions. Tours are for adults only (guests ages 18 years and older). Twilight tours are a more intimate experience to meet CTR’s animals. During these tours\, guests are the only visitors in the sanctuary. The day’s work is done\, and the guests have the sanctuary all to themselves. Enjoy a quiet evening with the cats\, and you might just be lucky enough to be serenaded by the lions!  After all\, they are still wild animals!  As with all their tours\, they cannot guarantee what the cats will do\, but it’s hard to have a bad evening with the animals. \nThe 2026 schedule will begin on Sun\, Mar 8\, and run through Sat\, Oct 31. The timeframe provided in this event listing is an estimate – please check your tickets for the exact time slot. Your Twilight Tour will last for about 1 ½ hours. Please arrive 15 minutes early. Trained volunteer tour guides will walk you through the animal sanctuary. You will learn about the various species living at Carolina Tiger Rescue and the challenges they face in the wild\, as well as the difficulties they encounter in captivity. You will have the opportunity to ask questions and take photos\, but please note that there will be no physical contact with the animals. \nAdvance tickets are required for attendees (no walk-ins available). Tours are offered from April to October on Friday\, Saturday\, and Sunday evenings\, rain or shine. The cost is $32 per person\, and a maximum of 25 people may attend each tour. Share special rainbow treats with the residents\, get your face painted\, learn about influential queer animal activists at the education table\, make buttons that show your Pride\, and participate in an on-site raffle to benefit a local queer organization. Their knowledgeable tour guides will be stationed throughout the refuge to tell enchanting stories of animal rescues and introduce you to each animal by name. While visiting\, be sure to see their serene\, curved brick animal memorial\, unique architectural designs\, and beautiful pavilion. Here\, you can purchase refuge merchandise and learn even more about their mission. \nIn addition to meeting our 100+ farm animal residents and learning their rescue stories\, you can enjoy delicious vegan eats from two local vendors: Soul’s Kitchen and Xochitla.
