Campers usually make unusual crafts using natural materials and techniques that follow the weekly themes. Each group has its own indoor and outdoor spaces\, allowing flexibility and ease in adapting to the day’s rhythm to suit the children’s needs. Melissa provides structure\, safety\, and supplies to help campers accomplish their ideas for the day. Melissa is passionate about the benefits of significant free-play time for all ages\, away from electronics. SUMMARY:Forest Tinkering Camp
DESCRIPTION:Forest Tinkering Camp at Sun Star Farm is a small group of 12 campers led by 2 counselors. Forest Tinkering Camp is very different from Tinkering School’s format.  Campers spend most of the day in the forest based in the camp’s new shelter\, learning and developing a variety of outdoor skills: flint-knapping to make arrowheads\, chopping wood for daily campfires used for cooking\, gathering native plants\, making fishing nets\, building a water filtration system\, whittling sticks into tools\, improving in archery\, and telling stories of yesteryear. As for projects\, they will be mostly individual.  Campers will need a certain level of maturity and be able to follow instructions to work and play safely in this environment. \nThey save 4 spots for girls during the registration period\, so they end up with a nice ratio of boys to girls.  If any of the “girl” spots are not taken by March 1st\, they open them to boys on the waitlist. DESCRIPTION:Tinkering School NC at Sun Star Farm is a small group of 12 campers led by 2 counselors and a 3rd counselor during peak building times. DESCRIPTION:In the Beginner 420 Camp\, hosted by the Carolina Sailing Foundation\, children ages 12-16 participate in small group\, on-the-water\, week-long sessions to learn beginner sailing skills. Participants learn the parts of a sailboat\, how it works\, and how to rig it and begin to sail properly. Suitable for complete novices. \nCamps emphasize safety\, building confidence\, having fun\, and improving skills. All head instructors are US Sailing certified. The cost per weekly session is $445 with discounts for siblings. Camp takes place at Crosswinds Boating Center. Dropoff is between 8:45am-9am\, and pickup is at 4pm. Vendors include Celebrity Dairy\, In Good Heart Farm\, and Vortex Roasters. Many chefs at restaurants in our area network with Pittsboro Farmers Market vendors\, including Kingston 99 Kitchen and West End Kitchen & Catering. You can find a complete\, up-to-date list of vendors here. \nSpecial markets are hosted on occasion. \nThe Pittsboro Farmers Market takes place outdoors\, rain or shine. Leashed\, well-behaved pets are allowed. Entry is free. Bringing your own bags\, cash\, and a cooler for perishable items is advised.
