You will paddle past multiple nesting areas in search of our majestic national bird. While sightings are not guaranteed\, Bald Eagles are most common in the areas they visit. Your guide will help you identify and answer questions about Bald Eagles and other birds in the area. All participants should have basic kayaking skills\, due to the duration on the water this trip is considered intermediate. Pre-registration is required. Participants will launch from the Farrington Point Access. The trip will last approximately 4 hours. DESCRIPTION:Join Piedmont Farm Animal Refuge for Moral Character and Meat-Eating: A Philosophy Talk by Zach Ferguson on Sat\, May 30\, 11am-1:30pm. Zach Ferguson\, a PhD Candidate and longtime friend of the Refuge\, is returning for an exciting talk! In collaboration with Carolina Public Humanities\, Ferguson will discuss contemporary philosophical debates about the ethics of meat eating. While some modern philosophers have posited that even a pro-animal lifestyle can include animal products\, such as meat that will be thrown away\, Ferguson pushes against this idea. His talk focuses on what it really means to reject speciesism\, arguing that a more just world for all living beings requires changing how people think and feel about animals\, regardless of one’s actions. This talk gets to the core of the challenges and contradictions that face anyone who cares about animal welfare in the present moment. After an hour-long talk\, you’ll be able to meet the chickens and learn their stories before enjoying a delicious free lunch from Pure Soul! \nThis free event takes place outdoors. In this Mental Health Matters talk\, therapist Danny Eller\, LCSW\, explores the hidden anxiety beneath control\, perfectionism\, overthinking\, and rigidity. Participants will learn how the mind uses control to manage fear and uncertainty\, and why those strategies often leave individuals feeling more exhausted\, frustrated\, and disconnected. This practical and accessible conversation will help attendees better understand stress\, anxiety\, emotional rigidity\, and the challenge of letting go\, while offering healthier ways to respond to uncertainty in everyday life. \n\n\nThis FREE indoor event is open to coworking members and the public.
