This book invites you to face loss with honesty\, discover unexpected healing\, and celebrate the beauty of it all. Held at Forest Hall at Chatham Mills\, the event will feature readings\, songs\, and thoughts from the contributors. This will be part church service\, part book reading\, part poetry reading\, part community sing-along\, and mostly a beautiful night with many beautiful souls. The evening will close with book signings and a sense of community. \nYou’ll hear from Tami Schwerin (Curator)\, Lyle Estill\, and Gary Phillips\, with live music from Arlo Estill and friends. Other storytellers include Karen Howard\, Adrian Moreno\, Pepe Caudillo\, Godi Godar\, Jessalyn Kiesa\, Frank Phoenix\, Matt Zemon\, and Cathy Brooksie Edwards. An integral part of McKenzie’s approach to healing is the understanding that time spent in nature is a form of medicine. She is a certified forest therapy guide through the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy Guides and Programs and has earned a Certificate in Horticultural Therapy from the Horticultural Therapy Institute. In addition to weaving ecotherapy elements into her private practice\, McKenzie also offers forest therapy walks to the community to raise awareness of the physical\, emotional\, and spiritual benefits of being in relationship with the land.

DESCRIPTION:Join Bynum Front Porch for the Susie Crate and Joe Newberry Show on Sat\, Nov 1\, 7pm-8:30pm. Susie and Joe have been playing and singing together since the early 80s. They performed together in The Piedmont Hepcats (along with Ted Ehrhard and Allen Cottrell) and in The Radio Rangers (with Carl Jones and Nowell Creadick). They now reunite to sing old songs and share some new ones. \nDirections. See more Bynum Front Porch events. \nARTIST BIOS \nSusie Crate likes to think she has come full circle in her storytelling and singing. After a decade of singing and storytelling in the Piedmont Triangle from the early 1980s to the early 1990s\, Susie began traversing the globe\, mainly in the direction of Siberia\, where she ultimately built an academic career researching cultural adaptations to change overall and specifically to climate change. Now she has returned to her home in Bynum to begin the next chapter of her life\, bringing stories and songs both old and new. \nKnown around the world for his clawhammer banjo playing\, Joe Newberry is also an influential guitarist\, singer\, and songwriter. The Gibson Brothers’ version of his song “Singing As We Rise\,” featuring guest vocalist Ricky Skaggs\, won an  IBMA “Gospel Recorded Performance” Award. With Eric Gibson\, he shared an IBMA “Song of the Year” Award for “They Called It Music.” A longtime and frequent guest on A Prairie Home Companion\, he was a featured singer on the Transatlantic Sessions 2016 tour of the U.K. with fiddler Aly Bain and Dobro master Jerry Douglas\, and at the Transatlantic Session’s debut at Merlefest in 2017.  In addition to performing solo\, he plays in a duo with mandolin icon Mike Compton\, and also performs with the dynamic fiddler and step-dancer April Verch.”

DESCRIPTION:Join Starrlight Mead for Tending to the Heart on Sat\, Nov 1\, 7pm-8:30pm\, as part of The Road to Death Faire. In support of the 10th Annual Death Faire\, set aside sacred time to tend to your grieving heart. During this special event\, heart2heartnc offers the space to love fully\, grieve deeply\, and bring comfort to yourself and the community. Cathy Brooksie Edwards will lead you through a powerful journey of breathwork\, light movement\, and healing touch. As you travel the transformative spaces of the fall season\, musicians Amy Durso\, Lolly Dunlap\, Sheila Fleming\, and special guests Will Ridenour and Richard Edwards will provide a soulful soundscape. Hands-on healers will be present to provide light energy work during the soundscape’s rest period. \nPlease bring your own yoga mat\, water\, a blanket\, and any props that support your comfort as you relax in the stillness of your tender heart. Chairs will be available. Feel free to arrive several minutes early to prepare your spot and settle into your sacred space for participation. This free community event at Starrlight does not require advanced registration. Tax-deductible donations are welcome and support the ongoing work of heart2heartnc as they bring needed healing to the community.
