This will be a moderate 3-mile hike that takes approximately two hours. There will be multiple stops along the way to learn about the ecology and history of the preserve. It’s like an IMAX Planetarium\, but in real life at Jordan Lake State Recreation Area! \nSCHEDULE \n\nFri\, May 16\, 8:15-11:15pm.\nFri\, Jun 6\, 8:30pm-11:30pm.\nSat\, Jul 12\, 8:30pm-11:30pm.\nSat\, Aug 16\, 8pm-11pm.\nFri\, Sep 26\, 7pm-10pm.\nSat\, Oct 18\, 6:30pm-9:30pm.\n\nPricing can be found on the website. Trips take off from the Farrington Point Boat Ramp. \nKNOW BEFORE YOU GO \n\nAll guests will be provided with a kayak\, a personal flotation device (life vest)\, and a paddle. The recommended packing list can be found here. Guests will need to provide their own lunches. \nAdvanced online registration is required. Trips may be cancelled if the minimum group size of 4 is not met. Please note that environmental factors may impact the planned curriculum for the day. Gratuity for guides/instructors is always appreciated. \nEstimating the time spent on water for river trips can be a challenging task. Numerous variables can affect the duration of a trip. A few considerations for this are water level and flow\, group experience\, managing a capsized canoe or kayak\, and other relevant factors. Guests may be asked to assist with the shuttle. Shorter distance trips can take 3–5 hours\, longer distance trips can take 4–7 hours.\nParticipants during winter months must wear cold-weather paddling gear appropriate for the air and water temperatures. Frog Hollow may be able to provide cold-weather paddle clothing to those who request it.

Campers will be making their own lunch during the camp sessions\, so lunch and snacks will be taken care of for each day. Campers should bring their own water bottle or cup if they have one. Enrollment space is limited to 8 youths per session. Program dates and topics are outlined below: \n\nTue\, Jul 15\, 9:30am-3:30pm: Fruits\, Veggies\, and Meatballs.\nThu\, Jul 17\, 9:30am-3:30pm: Biscuits and Bread.\nTue\, Aug 5\, 9:30am-3:30pm: Cooking and Knife Skills.\nThu\, Aug 7\, 9:30am-3:30pm: Pies and Muffins.\nTue\, Aug 12\, 9:30am-3:30pm: Southern American Classics.\nThu\, Aug 14\, 9:30am-3:30pm: Baking.\n\nEach session varies with content and recipes\, so youth attending multiple sessions will have the opportunity to try out new recipes. Please note: No arrivals will be accepted before 9:20am. Campers must be dropped off and picked up on time – a fee will be assessed for late pick-ups. The cost is $35 per session. SUMMARY:Come Out and Play Sculpture Show
DESCRIPTION:Dozens of artists\, creating in a myriad of media\, are represented in this annual Come Out and Play Sculpture Show\, now in its 24th year. The event takes place on a 17-acre homestead and is a gift from hosts to guests and artists. Artists do not pay a participation fee and keep all proceeds from their sales (many of the works on display are for sale). There are some out-of-state artists\, but most are local to North Carolina. Each reception is filled with fantastic art and local vendors\, free food and drink from the artists and hosts\, visits with the horses and pigs\, and live music from the North Carolina Songwriters Co-op. \nThe opening reception for 2025 is Sat\, Aug 23 and Sun\, Aug 24\, 12pm until dark. Additional receptions are hosted on the following Saturdays: Aug 30\, Sep 6\, Sep 13\, and Sep 20\, 12pm until dark. Events are free. Please do not park on this road. On the right-hand side\, go through the wooden gates and park on the right lawn. In the event that the right lawn is full\, folds will be there to guide you to parking on the left. There is plenty of parking\, so please follow their guidance and do not block any roads going in or out. \nACCESSIBILITY INFORMATION \nThe farm is not paved but there are gravel and grass areas. Parts of the property can be navigated with care for those with walkers or wheelchairs\, including the outdoor area where tents are set up and where the musicians perform. Many individuals with walkers and wheelchairs\, including the artists themselves\, attend the event every year. Please contact the event organizer for additional accessibility questions. \n \nTHE HISTORY BEHIND THE EVENT \nThe Come Out and Play Sculpture Show began in 2002 to commemorate the first anniversary of 9/11 and has continued since then to promote kindness in the world through art and by connecting people.
