SUMMARY:Spring 2025 Racial Equity Fundamentals Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Community Organizing for Racial Equity (CORE) welcomes you to join them for their Spring 2025 Racial Equity Fundamentals Workshop\, CORE’s most requested workshop across the state\, on Sat\, Mar 15\, 8am-3pm. This workshop is designed to initiate conversations about race and racism while exploring methods to drive systemic change\, shift power\, and promote community healing in the movement toward collective liberation. It’s presented in a series of four modules over one day\, with a facilitated discussion on equity as outlined below: \n\nEquity Fundamentals – Having a shared language brings attendees to a joint understanding of equity and how it is related to systemic racism and oppression. This module offers participants information on core concepts\, terminology\, and theories to show how racism has been constructed and maintained.\nAn Historical Examination –  In this module we will briefly examine the historical impact of racism and the current implications today. Knowing and understanding what systemic racism has meant throughout history allows us to explain today’s current implications.\nWhat is Power? – Participants will discover the value of looking beneath the surface to employ our sagacious mind. When sagacity is used effectively\, participants will be able to empathetically consider different perspectives to communicate and lead more equitably and to uncover solutions that ensure shared values remain intact.\nEquity in Action: Community Organizing – This module explores community organizing principles with a racial equity lens.  Applicable strategies to take action in your community are shared.\n\nLunch and light breakfast will be provided. Contact info@corenc.org to register groups of 5 or more and to receive the group rate. Register here.

Jordan Lake State Recreation Area is considered one of the largest summertime nesting areas for Bald Eagles in the southeastern US. The recommended packing list can be found here. Guests will need to provide their own lunches. \nIntermediate skills are recommended; the trip distance can be up to 8 miles. They DO NOT recommend this trip to be someone’s first paddling experience. This trip is not appropriate for children under 13.\nAdvanced online registration is required. Trips may be cancelled if the minimum group size of 4 is not met. Please note that environmental factors may impact the planned curriculum for the day. Gratuity for guides/instructors is always appreciated. \nEstimating the time spent on water for river trips can be a challenging task. Numerous variables can affect the duration of a trip. A few considerations for this are water level and flow\, group experience\, managing a capsized canoe or kayak\, and other relevant factors. Guests may be asked to assist with the shuttle. Shorter distance trips can take 3–5 hours\, longer distance trips can take 4–7 hours.\nParticipants during winter months must wear cold-weather paddling gear appropriate for the air and water temperatures. Frog Hollow may be able to provide cold-weather paddle clothing to those who request it.
