He is the author of The Red Scare Murders (Soho Press\, 2025)\, as well as the 42nd Street Library mysteries\, featuring Raymond Ambler\, curator of the library’s (fictional) crime fiction collection. He’s also the author of three mysteries featuring New York City bartender Brian McNulty\, and has published short stories in Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine and Alfred Hitchcock Mystery Magazine. Over the years\, he has been a college professor\, union organizer\, and labor journalist\, and has tended bar at about two dozen bars. He holds a Master of Fine Arts degree in fiction writing from Columbia University School of the Arts and teaches writing at The Writer’s Center in Bethesda\, Maryland. \nEryk Pruitt is a screenwriter\, author\, and filmmaker living in Durham\, NC\, with his wife Lana and his cat Busey. In 2011\, he wrote and produced the short film FOODIE\, which won eight top awards at more than 16 film festivals. Since then\, he has written several others\, including KEEPSAKE\, LIYANA\, ON COMMAND\, and THE HOODOO OF SWEET MAMA ROSA. Pruitt’s short fiction has appeared in The Avalon Literary Review\, Thuglit\, Pulp Modern\, and Zymbol\, among others\, and in 2014 was a finalist for a Derringer Award. His novels DIRTBAGS and HASHTAG are available in print\, audio\, and electronic formats. His latest novel\, WHAT WE RECKON\, was released on October 10th\, 2017. “If there’s one thing I want to do\, it’s tell a good story. Horror\, noir\, suspense…Film\, stage\, page…To me\, all that matters is the story. I’ll tell you one at the bar over a bourbon or in a packed movie house during a film festival. DESCRIPTION:Join Sip & ScriptⓇ at Starrlight Mead for Modern Calligraphy Fun during this Valentine’s/Galentine’s Modern Calligraphy for Beginners workshop on Sun\, Jan 18\, 2pm-3:30pm. Whether you’re a stationery nerd\, DIY Bride-to-be\, or just a crafty individual\, you’ll be introduced to modern calligraphy with a pointed dip pen and ink in this workshop. The workshop will cover all the basics and prepare you to add those unique lettered details to your snail mail\, wedding paper goods\, home decor\, and more! \nEnjoy a perfect crafty afternoon out! Feel free to arrive early\, grab your seat\, and purchase snacks or additional drinks (snacks and drinks are available throughout the class). Class will start promptly at 2pm. \nYes\, lefties are welcome\, too! This class is recommended for anyone who has never taken a calligraphy class. They teach the basics\, and they expect that you have ink flowing through your nib with enough confidence to practice well beyond class. They love using tracing paper with their guides to help you build muscle memory and develop your own style!  If you have tried calligraphy before\, this class will be a great refresher and a chance to try new supplies from our beginner kit that will reintroduce you to this lovely form of art! \nRegistration is $73 per person and includes 1.5 hours of instruction and demonstration\, a beginner’s calligraphy kit (two nibs\, a black ink pot\, two letter guides\, tracing paper\, and a straight pen holder)\, materials to write on\, and one drink (mead/honey wine\, cider\, or a non-alcoholic beverage). Everything is yours to keep at the end of the workshop! A note on bringing guests ages 16 and under: Sip & ScriptⓇ loves to share this passion with kids. You are welcome to get a ticket for your child if you are comfortable with people around them having a drink or two. SUMMARY:Winter 2026 Homeschool Camp at Clapping Hands Farm
DESCRIPTION:Join Clapping Hands Farm for their Winter 2026 Homeschool Camp\, hosted every Thursday\, January 8-February 12\, 9am-3:30pm. Clapping Hands is an arts and nature camp and retreat with a special love for community. Our homeschool camp workshops include visual arts\, crafts\, music\, theater\, and dance\, as well as engineering\, building\, nature exploration\, game creation\, and more! \nGENERAL SCHEDULE \n\nCamp opens with games\, Morning Circle\, and morning workshops in focus groups. Each session will have at least two Morning Workshop Focus Groups; campers choose one Focus Group to join for the entire 6-week session.\nLunch.\nAnything Goes and all-camp activities in the afternoon. Activities are different each day\, are based on campers’ requests\, and include opportunities to explore both focus groups. In other words\, if you are interested in both Focus Groups\, you can sign up for one of them for the morning and still be able to “taste” the others during Anything Goes.\nBuddy Group check-in and a Closing Circle before departure.\n\nFOCUS GROUPS \nThis session’s focus groups will include: \n\nEarth Romp is a playful exploration of all things outdoors. There will be exploring and discovering\, finding bugs and encountering animals and plants\, and running\, hiding\, climbing\, and playing. You might create new trails\, plant or find letterboxes\, go on a long hike\, and then play games upon arrival at your destination. You might craft using found and natural objects\, create Andy Goldsworthy-style outdoor art installations with leaves\, rocks\, and thorns\, and explore ancient technologies like atlatls. You might track animals\, study scat\, look for the earliest signs of spring\, and figure out what bugs are doing when it’s really cold.\nCarpentry is limited to a maximum of six campers and to campers ages 12 and older. Many structures around camp\, including the games shed\, lost-and-found shed\,  and many picnic tables and benches\, were built by campers themselves! In the Carpentry Focus Group\, campers will build benches and signs for current and future campers. Campers will learn practical\, creative skills such as recognizing quality wood\, implementing essential safety measures\, measuring and marking lumber for their structure designs\, attaching wood pieces with bolts and hex screws\, and addressing design considerations to build a structure sturdy enough to withstand weather and the energy of enthusiastic adults and kids!\nTable Games is for those who want to try a new game! You will learn many new games and play old favorites. Games will include strategy games\, drawing games\, writing games\, storytelling games\, dice games\, card games\, indoor party games\, games from a variety of cultures and countries\, puzzle games\, mazes\, math games\, geography games\, “getting to know you” games\, and a LARGE variety of board games (Louise has quite a collection!) The opportunity to craft traditional games to take home will be included.\n\nDETAILS AND LOGISTICS \nCamp is $400 per child\, with full and partial scholarships available. Homeschool Camp serves children and teens ages 8-16. They accept older campers who are interested in their Focus Group topics. They also accept younger campers on a case-by-case basis. Parents\, adults\, and older teens are also needed as Counselors or Volunteers. Parent volunteers at Homeschool camp do so much to make this program fantastic! \nCamp at Clapping Hands Farm takes place outdoors for the most part. They generally run camp in all weather conditions unless there are hazardous driving conditions or it is cold AND wet. In other words\, if it’s raining and 70 degrees\, they will have camp. If it’s 30 degrees and not raining\, we will have camp. But if it’s 40 degrees and raining\, they will skip camp and use their weather make-up day (either Tue\, Feb 19 or Tue\, Feb 26).
