Grief in Motion is a unique\, holistic\, and body-centered workshop that explores the heartache and healing that often accompany a journey of loss and change. All forms of grief are welcome. \nDo you know your grief? Can you recognize it\, locate it\, name it\, be with it\, and release it? Are you curious about the elements of grief that are living within you? Join heart2heart as they cultivate specific practices that will help you find ease in your body and mind. Your time together includes guided movements drawn from the Kundalini yoga tradition\, breathwork\, stillness\, and conversation\, along with live music and sound. \nWhether you are grieving the loss of a pet or making the heartbreaking decision to say goodbye\, this special Grief in Motion event will honor the love and connection shared with your beloved companions. Movements are tailored to support the intense emotions associated with grief that one undergoes in the body and the mind. You will explore prescriptive breathwork\, which will help you relax both physically and mentally\, as well as restore the relaxation response in your central nervous system\, to counter the effects of hyperarousal that can be brought on by grief. \nThis recalibration enables you to establish new neural pathways\, preventing your mind from falling into old patterns of physical and emotional pain. This will also include periods of stillness that allow for integration of the physical and emotional work. These sessions conclude with a voluntary opportunity for those who wish to share. \nheart2heart believes that these modalities of healing are meaningful and accessible to all humans seeking to heal their sorrows and to remember their sacred path in life. Produced by Transitions LifeCare\, “An Act of Love: Talking with Your Family About Serious Illness and End of Life” is a 25-minute documentary that explores the lived experiences of individuals from Black\, African American\, Hispanic\, Latino\, and rural communities as they navigate hospice and palliative care. Drawing on the personal stories of people living in the Triangle area\, the film sheds light on common misconceptions and the cultural silence that often surrounds end-of-life care in these underserved communities. \nNarrated by Grammy-nominated jazz artist Nnenna Freelon\, the film amplifies a chorus of voices—families\, caregivers\, spiritual leaders\, and healthcare professionals—offering a compassionate and multifaceted view of this critical time in life. These stories are especially timely in light of findings from the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO)\, which show that Black Americans on Medicare are 13% less likely to use hospice and palliative care than their white counterparts—a disparity that underscores the urgent need for culturally sensitive outreach and education. \nThis free event is co-sponsored by heart2heartnc\, WEBB Squared\, El Vinculo Hispano/Hispanic Liaison\, and The Fenwick Foundation. An integral part of McKenzie’s approach to healing is the understanding that time spent in nature is a form of medicine. She is a certified forest therapy guide through the Association of Nature and Forest Therapy Guides and Programs and has earned a Certificate in Horticultural Therapy from the Horticultural Therapy Institute. In addition to weaving ecotherapy elements into her private practice\, McKenzie also offers forest therapy walks to the community to raise awareness of the physical\, emotional\, and spiritual benefits of being in relationship with the land.

In support of the 10th Annual Death Faire\, set aside sacred time to tend to your grieving heart. During this special event\, heart2heartnc offers the space to love fully\, grieve deeply\, and bring comfort to yourself and the community. Cathy Brooksie Edwards will lead you through a powerful journey of breathwork\, light movement\, and healing touch. As you travel the transformative spaces of the fall season\, musicians Amy Durso\, Lolly Dunlap\, Sheila Fleming\, and special guests Will Ridenour and Richard Edwards will provide a soulful soundscape. Hands-on healers will be present to provide light energy work during the soundscape’s rest period. \nPlease bring your own yoga mat\, water\, a blanket\, and any props that support your comfort as you relax in the stillness of your tender heart. Chairs will be available. Feel free to arrive several minutes early to prepare your spot and settle into your sacred space for participation. This free community event at Starrlight does not require advanced registration. Tax-deductible donations are welcome and support the ongoing work of heart2heartnc as they bring needed healing to the community.
