DESCRIPTION:The 38th Annual Goldston Old Fashion Day is Sat\, Oct 11\, 9am-4pm. The one-day street festival\, sponsored by the Goldston Lions Club\, features local arts\, crafts\, pottery\, jewelry\, live music\, food vendors\, and a petting zoo. There will also be a display of classic cars and tractors. The food court is located in the same area\, featuring a covered seating area.  \nMain Street will be closed to traffic from United Fire & Safety to the old BB&T Bank. The old bank parking lot will have classic cars and trucks. C-Cape will also be on hand\, displaying their antique power equipment (tractors\, engines\, and more). Limited seating is available – bringing a lawn chair is recommended. \nBe sure to stop by the Chatham County Historical Association (CCHA) tent to share your stories and memories of the Goldston area. Goldston is over 100 years old and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. CCHA needs your stories of Goldston’s past to bring their collection to life. \nPart of the countdown to Chatham Celebrates America 250. Craft beverages are also available from Fair Game Beverage Company and bmc brewing. Make sure to try Starrlight and bmc’s collaboration\, a braggot\, which combines beer and mead. Grab food from Kingston 99 Kitchen\, JDub’s PoBoys\, Metal Brixx Cafe\, and Ta Contento. \nThis year’s event takes place Sat\, Sep 27\, 12pm-5pm. DESCRIPTION:Join Frog Hollow Outdoors for Paddle Under the Stars with the Morehead Planetarium. Learn about the night sky on these exceptional evenings. Participants will enjoy a delightful mix of science and mythology about the night sky while relaxing in canoes or kayaks on the water. It’s like an IMAX Planetarium\, but in real life at Jordan Lake State Recreation Area! \nSCHEDULE \n\nFri\, May 16\, 8:15-11:15pm.\nFri\, Jun 6\, 8:30pm-11:30pm.\nSat\, Jul 12\, 8:30pm-11:30pm.\nSat\, Aug 16\, 8pm-11pm.\nFri\, Sep 26\, 7pm-10pm.\nSat\, Oct 18\, 6:30pm-9:30pm.\n\nPricing can be found on the website. Trips take off from the Farrington Point Boat Ramp. \nKNOW BEFORE YOU GO \n\nAll guests will be provided with a kayak\, a personal flotation device (life vest)\, and a paddle. The recommended packing list can be found here. Guests will need to provide their own lunches. \nAdvanced online registration is required. Trips may be cancelled if the minimum group size of 4 is not met. Please note that environmental factors may impact the planned curriculum for the day. Gratuity for guides/instructors is always appreciated. \nEstimating the time spent on water for river trips can be a challenging task. Numerous variables can affect the duration of a trip. A few considerations for this are water level and flow\, group experience\, managing a capsized canoe or kayak\, and other relevant factors. Guests may be asked to assist with the shuttle. Shorter distance trips can take 3–5 hours\, longer distance trips can take 4–7 hours.\nParticipants during winter months must wear cold-weather paddling gear appropriate for the air and water temperatures. Frog Hollow may be able to provide cold-weather paddle clothing to those who request it.

SUMMARY:Come Out and Play Sculpture Show
DESCRIPTION:Dozens of artists\, creating in a myriad of media\, are represented in this annual Come Out and Play Sculpture Show\, now in its 24th year. The event takes place on a 17-acre homestead and is a gift from hosts to guests and artists. Artists do not pay a participation fee and keep all proceeds from their sales (many of the works on display are for sale). There are some out-of-state artists\, but most are local to North Carolina. Each reception is filled with fantastic art and local vendors\, free food and drink from the artists and hosts\, visits with the horses and pigs\, and live music from the North Carolina Songwriters Co-op. \nThe opening reception for 2025 is Sat\, Aug 23 and Sun\, Aug 24\, 12pm until dark. SUMMARY:18th Annual PepperFest
DESCRIPTION:The Plant presents the 18th Annual PepperFest on Sun\, Sep 14\, 12pm-6pm. PepperFest is a celebration of sustainable agriculture\, local farmers\, and the creativity of the Piedmont’s top chefs\, brewers\, and artisans. The event features peppers grown on-site in the Pepper Patch\, a hot sauce contest\, a variety of Pepper-Themed food and drinks from The Plant denizens\, a chili cook-off\, pop-up vendors\, live music\, and many more pepper-related activities. The average distance traveled by this year’s peppers can be measured as roughly fifty yards. \nPepperFest originated in Pittsboro in 2007 to support Doug Jones’s plant breeding work at Piedmont Biofarm. At the first PepperFest\, visitors walked through a tent filled with raw pepper samples and filled out surveys on clipboards before they could receive a beer. Doug was licensing his seeds to seed companies\, and he needed consumer data to back up his work in pepper genetics. \n \nTouch the pepper patch and physically see the difference between a poblano and a Marconi pepper on the vine. You’ll also see the Scotch Bonnets (Jamaica’s national pepper) before they are picked for dishes served at Kingston 99 Kitchen. You’ll also see how Flying Pepper Vodka is made at Fair Game Beverage Company\, using Aji Dulce Tobago peppers grown in The Plant’s pepper patch. \nGrab a pepper beer from bmc brewing\, food at Kingston 99 Kitchen or JDub’s PoBoys\, and wander The Plant’s eclectic campus. \nThis event is free to the public\, and tickets are not required for this year’s event. Planning has begun\, and they are working to bring you another great year of the unique blend of old-time fiddlers’ conventions and traditional music festival that has become Hoppin’ John. Tickets go on sale Sun\, Jun 15\, 2025. Rates for weekend and single-day admission\, as well as camping\, can be found here. \nDetails for this year’s festival are TBD\, but there are always workshops\, showcases\, dances\, contests (including the Hoppin’ John Cook-Off)\, family activities\, and\, of course\, great music! Hosted annually at the Shakori Hills Community Arts Center. \nPETS \nBringing your dog to Hoppin’ John is highly discouraged. DESCRIPTION:After rescheduling their annual summer celebration due to inclement weather\, The Pittsboro Business Association proudly presents Pittsboro End-of-Summer Fest on Sun\, Sep 7\, 4pm-8pm. Enjoy all the usual Summer Fest activities\, but in (hopefully) cooler temperatures. Activities typically include a Decorated Bicycle Parade\, juggling\, giant balloons\, hula hooping\, balloon animals\, a duck pond for prizes\, axe throwing\, and fun for the whole family. There will also be food trucks and local vendors. Enjoy live music from SouLe and the Super Band and Your Mama’s New Boyfriend. \nThis celebration takes place at the Pittsboro Pop-Up park between Salisbury and Hanks streets in downtown Pittsboro. This venue is wheelchair accessible. Leashed pets are allowed\, but discouraged. \nThe Chatham County Historical Association wouldn’t miss Pittsboro’s Summerfest\, and you shouldn’t either! Stop by their table to say hi\, and be sure to bring your own stories about Old Chatham County—they’d love to hear them! SUMMARY:Come Out and Play Sculpture Show
DESCRIPTION:Dozens of artists\, creating in a myriad of media\, are represented in this annual Come Out and Play Sculpture Show\, now in its 24th year. The event takes place on a 17-acre homestead and is a gift from hosts to guests and artists. Artists do not pay a participation fee and keep all proceeds from their sales (many of the works on display are for sale). There are some out-of-state artists\, but most are local to North Carolina. Each reception is filled with fantastic art and local vendors\, free food and drink from the artists and hosts\, visits with the horses and pigs\, and live music from the North Carolina Songwriters Co-op. \nThe opening reception for 2025 is Sat\, Aug 23 and Sun\, Aug 24\, 12pm until dark. Additional receptions are hosted on the following Saturdays: Aug 30\, Sep 6\, Sep 13\, and Sep 20\, 12pm until dark. Events are free.
