Meander with TLC Trail Guide Mary Abrams through White Pines Nature Preserve! The preserve will be filled with the songs of resident birds and early migrators as you discover the first blooms of spring on the cool slopes of the Deep and Rocky Rivers. You will hike over hilly terrain for about 2 miles as you immerse yourself in the pleasures of early spring. They recommend that you bring binoculars if you have them\, but they will have a few to borrow if you don’t. \nThis is a free event\, but registration is required. If registration is full\, please fill out the waitlist form here by Mon\, Mar 23 at 12pm. This event takes place outdoors. SUMMARY:Spring 2026 Homeschool Camp at Clapping Hands Farm
DESCRIPTION:Join Clapping Hands Farm for their Spring 2026 Homeschool Camp\, hosted every Thursday\, Mar 5-Apr 16\, 9am-3:30pm. Clapping Hands is an arts and nature camp and retreat with a special love for community. Our homeschool camp workshops include visual arts\, crafts\, music\, theater\, and dance\, as well as engineering\, building\, nature exploration\, game creation\, and more! \nGENERAL SCHEDULE \n\nCamp opens with games\, Morning Circle\, and morning workshops in focus groups. Each session will have at least two Morning Workshop Focus Groups; campers choose one Focus Group to join for the entire 6-week session.\nLunch.\nAnything Goes and all-camp activities in the afternoon. Activities are different each day\, are based on campers’ requests\, and include opportunities to explore both focus groups. In other words\, if you are interested in both Focus Groups\, you can sign up for one of them for the morning and still be able to “taste” the others during Anything Goes.\nBuddy Group check-in and a Closing Circle before departure.\n\nSee this page for this program’s Focus Groups. \nDETAILS AND LOGISTICS \nCamp is $400 per child\, with full and partial scholarships available. Homeschool Camp serves children and teens ages 8-16. They accept older campers who are interested in their Focus Group topics. They also accept younger campers on a case-by-case basis. Parents\, adults\, and older teens are also needed as Counselors or Volunteers. Parent volunteers at Homeschool camp do so much to make this program fantastic! \nCamp at Clapping Hands Farm takes place outdoors for the most part. They generally run camp in all weather conditions unless there are hazardous driving conditions or it is cold AND wet. In other words\, if it’s raining and 70 degrees\, they will have camp. If it’s 30 degrees and not raining\, we will have camp. But if it’s 40 degrees and raining\, they will skip camp and use their weather make-up day (Thu\, Apr 23). SUMMARY:Tobacco Road Marathon
DESCRIPTION:The Tobacco Road Marathon and Half-Marathon feature over 20 miles of the American Tobacco Trail (including 4 miles of Chatham County\, NC). Up to twenty percent of their runners qualify for the Legendary Boston Marathon. Less experienced runners benefit\, too\, as the fast and flat energy-absorbing course and ideal spring temperatures make it an excellent venue for your next personal record!  \nThe 16th Annual Tobacco Road Marathon and Half Marathon is Sun\, Mar 14\, 2027. As in prior years\, both races will begin at 7am on Brooks Park Lane and head towards the entrance of Thomas Brooks Park. The first and last 2.5 miles of both races are on paved roadways. The ATT surface is compacted screenings\, with some sections combining this with asphalt. \nWhether you are participating or cheering for a friend or family member\, there is plenty to do in our area – local eateries\, places to stay\, craft beverage tastings and tours\, wineries\, nature activities\, golf\, shopping\, and more. Take advantage of all that Chatham County has to offer!  \nThe Tobacco Road Marathon is organized by a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing partner charities with financial assistance by channeling passionate runners everywhere\, particularly those in the North Carolina Triangle area\, into a powerful force for good. Over the years\, the event has raised over $1.7 million for charities\, including the American Red Cross\, JDRF\, Hope for the Warriors\, and Triangle Rails to Trails Conservancy (ATT is a Rails to Trails project).  \nThe inaugural event was held Mar 21\, 2010\, with over 3\,400 registered runners representing 39 states. Approximately 4\,000 runners and thousands of spectators will attend this year’s event. In 2014\, Runner’s World Magazine named the Tobacco Road Marathon one of the top ten best new marathons.

DESCRIPTION:Join Clean Up Jordan Lake for their 2026 Annual Spring Cleanup on Sat\, Mar 14\, 8:30am-12pm. Clean Jordan Lake is joining a group of local organizations hosting cleanup events as part of Creek Week activities\, including the Chatham County\, Orange County\, and Keep Durham Beautiful. Assignments include: \n\nWalkers: You will be divided into groups at registration.\nBoaters: Boaters are needed to ferry some volunteers to their cleanup track and back\, and also to help haul trash back to the dumpster at the Corps Bulkhead. Boaters who wish to ferry volunteers only are welcome. They will loan 2-way radios to boaters for communication.\nKayakers: Come to the registration table at 8:45am to receive assignments from CJL leaders.\n\nThis year\, they continue their tradition of offering a Trash Treasure Hunt. Items marked by “CJL TTH” are shown to the track captain\, who will issue a CJL business card redeemable for a merchandise prize at the registration table. Coffee and pastries will be available during registration. \nAll volunteers must wear closed-toe shoes and work gloves (provided or bring your own). They strongly recommend long pants\, a long-sleeve shirt\, and a hat. Shoreline Track Captains will be present to guide volunteers. Volunteers will be provided with bags\, trash grabbers\, first-aid kits\, water\, and gloves\, if needed. Go straight past the ticket booth onto a dirt road. Follow the signs to parking. Space is limited on the narrow road\, so please carpool or arrange a drop-off if possible. Pets are not allowed on the race course. DESCRIPTION:Join Clapping Hands Farm for their Spring 2026 Homeschool Camp\, hosted every Thursday\, Mar 5-Apr 16\, 9am-3:30pm. Clapping Hands is an arts and nature camp and retreat with a special love for community. Our homeschool camp workshops include visual arts\, crafts\, music\, theater\, and dance\, as well as engineering\, building\, nature exploration\, game creation\, and more! \nGENERAL SCHEDULE \n\nCamp opens with games\, Morning Circle\, and morning workshops in focus groups. Each session will have at least two Morning Workshop Focus Groups; campers choose one Focus Group to join for the entire 6-week session.\nLunch.\nAnything Goes and all-camp activities in the afternoon. Activities are different each day\, are based on campers’ requests\, and include opportunities to explore both focus groups. In other words\, if you are interested in both Focus Groups\, you can sign up for one of them for the morning and still be able to “taste” the others during Anything Goes.\nBuddy Group check-in and a Closing Circle before departure.\n\nSee this page for this program’s Focus Groups. \nDETAILS AND LOGISTICS \nCamp is $400 per child\, with full and partial scholarships available. Homeschool Camp serves children and teens ages 8-16. They accept older campers who are interested in their Focus Group topics. They also accept younger campers on a case-by-case basis. Parents\, adults\, and older teens are also needed as Counselors or Volunteers. Parent volunteers at Homeschool camp do so much to make this program fantastic! \nCamp at Clapping Hands Farm takes place outdoors for the most part. They generally run camp in all weather conditions unless there are hazardous driving conditions or it is cold AND wet. In other words\, if it’s raining and 70 degrees\, they will have camp. If it’s 30 degrees and not raining\, we will have camp. But if it’s 40 degrees and raining\, they will skip camp and use their weather make-up day (Thu\, Apr 23). DESCRIPTION:Join Clapping Hands Farm for their Spring 2026 Homeschool Camp\, hosted every Thursday\, Mar 5-Apr 16\, 9am-3:30pm. Clapping Hands is an arts and nature camp and retreat with a special love for community. Our homeschool camp workshops include visual arts\, crafts\, music\, theater\, and dance\, as well as engineering\, building\, nature exploration\, game creation\, and more! \nGENERAL SCHEDULE \n\nCamp opens with games\, Morning Circle\, and morning workshops in focus groups. Each session will have at least two Morning Workshop Focus Groups; campers choose one Focus Group to join for the entire 6-week session.\nLunch.\nAnything Goes and all-camp activities in the afternoon. Activities are different each day\, are based on campers’ requests\, and include opportunities to explore both focus groups. In other words\, if you are interested in both Focus Groups\, you can sign up for one of them for the morning and still be able to “taste” the others during Anything Goes.\nBuddy Group check-in and a Closing Circle before departure.\n\nSee this page for this program’s Focus Groups. \nDETAILS AND LOGISTICS \nCamp is $400 per child\, with full and partial scholarships available. Homeschool Camp serves children and teens ages 8-16. They accept older campers who are interested in their Focus Group topics. They also accept younger campers on a case-by-case basis. Parents\, adults\, and older teens are also needed as Counselors or Volunteers. Parent volunteers at Homeschool camp do so much to make this program fantastic! \nCamp at Clapping Hands Farm takes place outdoors for the most part. They generally run camp in all weather conditions unless there are hazardous driving conditions or it is cold AND wet. In other words\, if it’s raining and 70 degrees\, they will have camp. If it’s 30 degrees and not raining\, we will have camp. But if it’s 40 degrees and raining\, they will skip camp and use their weather make-up day (Thu\, Apr 23). DESCRIPTION:Join Friends of the Lower Haw River State Natural Area and Sean Higgins\, an Interpretation and Education Manager with NC State Parks\, for this Great Backyard Bird Count Stroll on Sat\, Feb 14\, 10am-11:30am. Learn some new bird identification skills or share some expertise with others. Anyone can participate in this nationwide citizen science project\, held every President’s Day weekend. You will observe bird study skins up close to practice observation skills. Then\, you’ll amble along the river and trails to conduct the bird count. Bring binoculars if you have them\, or they’ll have some you can borrow. Everyone is welcome\, from expert birders to absolute beginners. \nDIRECTIONS \nFrom US Hwy 15-501\, turn onto Durham-Eubanks Road. If coming from Chapel Hill\, this will be a left turn before the Haw River. If coming from Pittsboro\, this will be a right turn after crossing the Haw River. Follow Durham-Eubanks Road to the stop sign. Local pottery artist Courtney Pernell\, owner of Bayleaf market\, is a TLC supporter and is excited to merge her passions for trails\, nature\, and pottery to share that love with the wider community. Visitors to TLC’s seven public nature preserves can search for her handmade pottery “love birds” along the trails.  If you are lucky enough to find one\, it becomes TLC’s gift to you! They ask that once you find a pottery bird\, snap a picture of it on the trail and post it to Facebook or Instagram with the hashtags #hikeTLC and #pottercourt. Please limit your pottery gift to one per person. This fun event coincides with the Great Backyard Bird Count (Feb 13-16\, 2026)\, a global community science event that takes place each February and encourages people to observe and record bird sightings wherever they are. There will be exploring and discovering\, finding bugs and encountering animals and plants\, and running\, hiding\, climbing\, and playing. You might create new trails\, plant or find letterboxes\, go on a long hike\, and then play games upon arrival at your destination. You might craft using found and natural objects\, create Andy Goldsworthy-style outdoor art installations with leaves\, rocks\, and thorns\, and explore ancient technologies like atlatls. You might track animals\, study scat\, look for the earliest signs of spring\, and figure out what bugs are doing when it’s really cold.\nCarpentry is limited to a maximum of six campers and to campers ages 12 and older. Many structures around camp\, including the games shed\, lost-and-found shed\,  and many picnic tables and benches\, were built by campers themselves! In the Carpentry Focus Group\, campers will build benches and signs for current and future campers. Campers will learn practical\, creative skills such as recognizing quality wood\, implementing essential safety measures\, measuring and marking lumber for their structure designs\, attaching wood pieces with bolts and hex screws\, and addressing design considerations to build a structure sturdy enough to withstand weather and the energy of enthusiastic adults and kids!\nTable Games is for those who want to try a new game! You will learn many new games and play old favorites. Games will include strategy games\, drawing games\, writing games\, storytelling games\, dice games\, card games\, indoor party games\, games from a variety of cultures and countries\, puzzle games\, mazes\, math games\, geography games\, “getting to know you” games\, and a LARGE variety of board games (Louise has quite a collection!) The opportunity to craft traditional games to take home will be included.\n\nDETAILS AND LOGISTICS \nCamp is $400 per child\, with full and partial scholarships available. Homeschool Camp serves children and teens ages 8-16. They accept older campers who are interested in their Focus Group topics. They also accept younger campers on a case-by-case basis. Parent volunteers at Homeschool camp do so much to make this program fantastic! \nCamp at Clapping Hands Farm takes place outdoors for the most part. They generally run camp in all weather conditions unless there are hazardous driving conditions or it is cold AND wet. In other words\, if it’s raining and 70 degrees\, they will have camp. If it’s 30 degrees and not raining\, we will have camp. But if it’s 40 degrees and raining\, they will skip camp and use their weather make-up day (either Tue\, Feb 19 or Tue\, Feb 26).
