Participants will enjoy a delightful mix of science and mythology about the night sky while relaxing in canoes or kayaks on the water. It’s like an IMAX Planetarium\, but in real life at Jordan Lake State Recreation Area! \nSCHEDULE \n\nFri\, May 16\, 8:15-11:15pm.\nFri\, Jun 6\, 8:30pm-11:30pm.\nSat\, Jul 12\, 8:30pm-11:30pm.\nSat\, Aug 16\, 8pm-11pm.\nFri\, Sep 26\, 7pm-10pm.\nSat\, Oct 18\, 6:30pm-9:30pm.\n\nPricing can be found on the website. Trips take off from the Farrington Point Boat Ramp. \nKNOW BEFORE YOU GO \n\nAll guests will be provided with a kayak\, a personal flotation device (life vest)\, and a paddle. Gratuity for guides/instructors is always appreciated. \nEstimating the time spent on water for river trips can be a challenging task. Numerous variables can affect the duration of a trip. A few considerations for this are water level and flow\, group experience\, managing a capsized canoe or kayak\, and other relevant factors. Guests may be asked to assist with the shuttle. Shorter distance trips can take 3–5 hours\, longer distance trips can take 4–7 hours.\nParticipants during winter months must wear cold-weather paddling gear appropriate for the air and water temperatures. Frog Hollow may be able to provide cold-weather paddle clothing to those who request it.

DESCRIPTION:The 38th Annual Goldston Old Fashion Day is Sat\, Oct 11\, 9am-4pm. The one-day street festival\, sponsored by the Goldston Lions Club\, features local arts\, crafts\, pottery\, jewelry\, live music\, food vendors\, and a petting zoo. There will also be a display of classic cars and tractors. The food court is located in the same area\, featuring a covered seating area.  \nMain Street will be closed to traffic from United Fire & Safety to the old BB&T Bank. The old bank parking lot will have classic cars and trucks. C-Cape will also be on hand\, displaying their antique power equipment (tractors\, engines\, and more). Limited seating is available – bringing a lawn chair is recommended. \nBe sure to stop by the Chatham County Historical Association (CCHA) tent to share your stories and memories of the Goldston area. Goldston is over 100 years old and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Trips take off from the Farrington Point Boat Ramp. \nKNOW BEFORE YOU GO \n\nAll guests will be provided with a kayak\, a personal flotation device (life vest)\, and a paddle. The recommended packing list can be found here. Guests will need to provide their own lunches. \nAdvanced online registration is required. Trips may be cancelled if the minimum group size of 4 is not met. Please note that environmental factors may impact the planned curriculum for the day. Gratuity for guides/instructors is always appreciated. \nEstimating the time spent on water for river trips can be a challenging task. Numerous variables can affect the duration of a trip. A few considerations for this are water level and flow\, group experience\, managing a capsized canoe or kayak\, and other relevant factors. Guests may be asked to assist with the shuttle. Shorter distance trips can take 3–5 hours\, longer distance trips can take 4–7 hours.\nParticipants during winter months must wear cold-weather paddling gear appropriate for the air and water temperatures. SUMMARY:Come Out and Play Sculpture Show
DESCRIPTION:Dozens of artists\, creating in a myriad of media\, are represented in this annual Come Out and Play Sculpture Show\, now in its 24th year. The event takes place on a 17-acre homestead and is a gift from hosts to guests and artists. Artists do not pay a participation fee and keep all proceeds from their sales (many of the works on display are for sale). There are some out-of-state artists\, but most are local to North Carolina. Each reception is filled with fantastic art and local vendors\, free food and drink from the artists and hosts\, visits with the horses and pigs\, and live music from the North Carolina Songwriters Co-op. \nThe opening reception for 2025 is Sat\, Aug 23 and Sun\, Aug 24\, 12pm until dark. Additional receptions are hosted on the following Saturdays: Aug 30\, Sep 6\, Sep 13\, and Sep 20\, 12pm until dark. Events are free. SUMMARY:18th Annual PepperFest
DESCRIPTION:The Plant presents the 18th Annual PepperFest on Sun\, Sep 14\, 12pm-6pm. PepperFest is a celebration of sustainable agriculture\, local farmers\, and the creativity of the Piedmont’s top chefs\, brewers\, and artisans. The event features peppers grown on-site in the Pepper Patch\, a hot sauce contest\, a variety of Pepper-Themed food and drinks from The Plant denizens\, a chili cook-off\, pop-up vendors\, live music\, and many more pepper-related activities. The average distance traveled by this year’s peppers can be measured as roughly fifty yards. \nPepperFest originated in Pittsboro in 2007 to support Doug Jones’s plant breeding work at Piedmont Biofarm. At the first PepperFest\, visitors walked through a tent filled with raw pepper samples and filled out surveys on clipboards before they could receive a beer. Doug was licensing his seeds to seed companies\, and he needed consumer data to back up his work in pepper genetics. \n \nTouch the pepper patch and physically see the difference between a poblano and a Marconi pepper on the vine. You’ll also see the Scotch Bonnets (Jamaica’s national pepper) before they are picked for dishes served at Kingston 99 Kitchen. You’ll also see how Flying Pepper Vodka is made at Fair Game Beverage Company\, using Aji Dulce Tobago peppers grown in The Plant’s pepper patch. \nGrab a pepper beer from bmc brewing\, food at Kingston 99 Kitchen or JDub’s PoBoys\, and wander The Plant’s eclectic campus. \nThis event is free to the public\, and tickets are not required for this year’s event. SUMMARY:Come Out and Play Sculpture Show
DESCRIPTION:Dozens of artists\, creating in a myriad of media\, are represented in this annual Come Out and Play Sculpture Show\, now in its 24th year. The event takes place on a 17-acre homestead and is a gift from hosts to guests and artists. Artists do not pay a participation fee and keep all proceeds from their sales (many of the works on display are for sale). There are some out-of-state artists\, but most are local to North Carolina. Each reception is filled with fantastic art and local vendors\, free food and drink from the artists and hosts\, visits with the horses and pigs\, and live music from the North Carolina Songwriters Co-op. \nThe opening reception for 2025 is Sat\, Aug 23 and Sun\, Aug 24\, 12pm until dark. Additional receptions are hosted on the following Saturdays: Aug 30\, Sep 6\, Sep 13\, and Sep 20\, 12pm until dark. Events are free. This event is family-friendly and pet-friendly (please keep all dogs on a leash).
