SUMMARY:Cool Creek Farm Summer Camps
DESCRIPTION:Join Cool Creek Farm for Summer Camps\, hosted during select weeks in June\, July\, and August 2026. Camp days follow an easy flow that starts with a morning circle and conversation\, and reading aloud of quality children’s literature. The bulk of the day is spent with campers choosing their own activities and using their imaginations. Campers can snack whenever they like\, but lunch is eaten together\, sometimes as a picnic under the Bald Cypress or giant Ash tree\, and then they read some more! Camp weeks are enhanced by a special visitor every Wednesday morning. A structured activity or form of entertainment is shared with the whole group. Seasonal free-play options throughout the day include: \n\nSports\, games\, and play structures.\nCrafts.\nCreek and sand play.\nVisiting with the goats and collecting eggs.\nFort building and tree climbing.\nSlip-n-sliding with a break for homemade popsicles.\nTrail walks and campfires.\n\nCamps occur on a 26-acre farm in Pittsboro\, NC\, run by Camp Director Melissa Frey and her adult daughter\, Marinne. Melissa provides structure\, safety\, and supplies to help campers accomplish their ideas for the day. Melissa is passionate about the benefits of significant free-play time for all ages\, away from electronics. Campers usually make unusual crafts using natural materials and techniques that follow the weekly themes. Each group has its own indoor and outdoor spaces\, allowing flexibility and ease in adapting to the day’s rhythm to suit the children’s needs. \nCamp Director Heidi Watkins\, a mother of three and educator\, is on the farm at all times and is intimately involved in every aspect of running the camp and engaging the children at Sun Star Farm. SUMMARY:Forest Tinkering Camp
DESCRIPTION:Forest Tinkering Camp at Sun Star Farm is a small group of 12 campers led by 2 counselors. Forest Tinkering Camp is very different from Tinkering School’s format.  Campers spend most of the day in the forest based in the camp’s new shelter\, learning and developing a variety of outdoor skills: flint-knapping to make arrowheads\, chopping wood for daily campfires used for cooking\, gathering native plants\, making fishing nets\, building a water filtration system\, whittling sticks into tools\, improving in archery\, and telling stories of yesteryear. As for projects\, they will be mostly individual.  Campers will need a certain level of maturity and be able to follow instructions to work and play safely in this environment. \nThey save 4 spots for girls during the registration period\, so they end up with a nice ratio of boys to girls.  If any of the “girl” spots are not taken by March 1st\, they open them to boys on the waitlist. There is a 6:1 counselor-to-camper ratio. This camp is for children ages 9-12. \nCamp is $499/week. Early care starts at 8am and is $35/week. DESCRIPTION:Tinkering School NC at Sun Star Farm is a small group of 12 campers led by 2 counselors and a 3rd counselor during peak building times. Once they cover skills and safety\, campers collaborate to create an awesome large-scale project based on a theme chosen late Monday/Tuesday morning\, depending on skill level\, interest\, and weather conditions. They use impact drivers\, cordless drills\, levels\, measuring tapes\, and other basic carpentry hand tools.  Each camper is given safety glasses and ear muff hearing protection. DESCRIPTION:Forest Tinkering Camp at Sun Star Farm is a small group of 12 campers led by 2 counselors. DESCRIPTION:The Art Party Camp at Clapping Hands Farm\, hosted Mon\, Jun 15-Fri\, Jun 19\, 9am-2pm\, is a family camp for parents and young children to enjoy together. Each day\, the Clapping Hands Farm team sets out a spectacular array of visual arts exploration\, and a different guest artist shares music and dance experiences for an all-around fun time. At their art party\, come ready to: \n\nFinger paint.\nMake colorful slime.\nPlay in shaving cream.\nDraw with pastels\, colored chalk\, and other mediums.\nLearn to embroider on burlap or sew your own stuffed animal.\nMake your own toys.\n\nAnd so much more! Much of the day will be for adults and children to enjoy together. Each afternoon\, they offer a workshop with their guest artist specifically for creative exploration and rejuvenation for parents\, while other artists and camp counselors work with the children. Singing games provide a lively morning circle\, and days will end with a closing circle and a story told by Louise. \nThe cost is $350 for the first child + parents and $275 for each additional child. It is $50 for babies and toddlers under 2. Ages 2-8 and their parents are welcome. Per-day registration is $75 for the first child + parents\, $50 for each additional child\, and $10 for babies and toddlers under 2. Since pricing is so complicated\, no discounts are available for this camp\, but scholarships are available\, and no one is turned away. The day’s work is done\, and the guests have the sanctuary all to themselves. Enjoy a quiet evening with the cats\, and you might just be lucky enough to be serenaded by the lions!  After all\, they are still wild animals!  As with all their tours\, they cannot guarantee what the cats will do\, but it’s hard to have a bad evening with the animals. \nThe 2026 schedule will begin on Sun\, Mar 8\, and run through Sat\, Oct 31. The timeframe provided in this event listing is an estimate – please check your tickets for the exact time slot. Your Twilight Tour will last for about 1 ½ hours. Please arrive 15 minutes early. Trained volunteer tour guides will walk you through the animal sanctuary. You will learn about the various species living at Carolina Tiger Rescue and the challenges they face in the wild\, as well as the difficulties they encounter in captivity. DESCRIPTION:Come celebrate the holidays with the cats at Holiday Enrichment Tours with Carolina Tiger Rescue. On the tour\, you will learn about CTR’s wonderful animals and how enrichment enhances their lives. Watch the animals play with and destroy holiday-themed enrichment\, then indulge in some edible holiday enrichment of your own! \nThe upcoming schedule for Holiday Enrichment Tours is below: \n\nSat\, Jun 20\, 2pm-4pm – Father’s Day Weekend.\nSun\, Jun 21\, 2pm-4pm – Father’s Day Weekend.\nFri\, Jul 3\, 2pm-4pm – Fourth of July Weekend.\nSat\, Jul 4\, 2pm-4pm – Fourth of July Weekend.\n\nAdvance tickets are required for all attendees (no walk-ins). Tours last around 1.5-2 hours and are offered on select holiday weekends throughout the year\, rain or shine. The cost is $32 for individuals aged 13 and above\, and $26 for those aged 0-12\, with a maximum of 25 people allowed per tour. Tickets are available 8 weeks before your visit. \nSee more events at Carolina Tiger Rescue. \n BEFORE YOU VISIT \nThere are several things CTR would like you to know before booking your tour. Please review the information below before purchasing your tickets: \n\nIf a minor child is not accompanied by their parent\, the parent must complete a Combined Minor Release Form and bring it in at the time of your tour.\nAll tours go out rain or shine. In the event of extreme weather\, Carolina Tiger Rescue will contact guests to inform them if a cancellation is necessary.\nPhotos may be taken during your tour after you’ve signed your visitor release.\nThe Education Center is wheelchair-accessible; however\, the gravel and grass paths may be more challenging for those with limited mobility. Golf carts are available to assist guests who need them. If you have accessibility concerns\, please call 919.542.4648 to make arrangements before your visit.\nGPS may not provide accurate directions to CTR’s location. They recommend using the directions from their website to ensure a successful arrival.\nCTR does not allow outside animals anywhere on the property. Please leave your pets at home.
