PFAR vegan potlucks are great opportunities for vegans and vegan-curious individuals to meet like-minded people\, engage in meaningful conversations\, and share delicious food. Here are a couple of important notes: \n\nPlease bring your own plates\, forks\, bowls\, and other eating utensils from home to help make the event environmentally friendly and reduce the use of disposables.\nPlease also bring a note card with the list of ingredients in your dish(es) to help those with specific food allergies.\n\nThere is an ADA-certified porta-potty on site\, and they have also installed a portable handwashing station. Participants will learn about planting techniques and timing\, best varieties\, common problems\, and harvesting methods for broccoli\, cabbage\, carrots\, kale\, lettuce\, onions\, peas\, potatoes\, and asparagus. Participants will also get a tour of the demonstration garden. \nVegetable crops are classified as either ‘warm-season’ or ‘cool-season’ according to their optimum planting time. Cool-season crops are generally planted in early fall to early spring because they do not tolerate the heat stress of the summer. However\, cool-season crops vary in the specific horticultural practices needed for optimum production. \nClasses occur Thu\, Aug 14\, 9:30am-11:30am in the Cooperative Extension wing of the Chatham County Agriculture & Conference Center. DESCRIPTION:Join Piedmont Farm Animal Refuge for a Vegan Ice Cream Cooking Class on Sat\, Aug 30\, 11am-12pm. There’s nothing quite like cooling down with refreshing ice cream on a hot day\, especially when you make it yourself with fresh ingredients. That’s why PFAR put together a vegan “Nice Cream” cooking class with instructor Leah Jamison\, a self-taught baker\, plant-based recipe developer\, and graduate student in nutrition working toward becoming a registered dietitian! Her recipes are rooted in curiosity\, cozy flavors\, and a deep passion for food as medicine. \nLeah will walk you through how to make salted caramel “nice cream” complete with THREE homemade recipes (vegan ice cream\, nut butter\, no-fuss vegan caramel). She’ll also teach you how to craft a scrumptious no-bake apple crumble with notes of cinnamon\, pecan\, and caramel. These delicious desserts are perfect for those warm\, late-summer nights when it feels like all you need is a sugary treat to keep you cool. \nIn addition to learning how to make these incredible recipes\, you’ll also be treated to a mini-tour of the Refuge to meet the cow residents!
