SUMMARY:"The Smell of Money" Movie Night
DESCRIPTION:Join Piedmont Farm Animal Refuge for food\, drinks\, and an outdoor film screening of a new and award-wining documentary\, “The Smell of Money” on Sat\, Oct 15 from 6:30 pm – 9:30 pm. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion with residents directly impacted by CAFOs in Duplin County\, NC. \n\nThis will be an outdoor screening at the Refuge Pavilion with vegan vendors. Seating will be provided\, but please feel free to bring your own chair or blanket! Tickets are $15 per person and all proceeds benefit the animals. \nAbout the film: “The smell of money”—that’s what Big Pork calls the stench of pig waste in the air in eastern North Carolina\, where much of the world’s bacon and barbecue is made. But to Elsie Herring and others who live near the state’s giant pig factories\, the revolting odor is a call to battle against generations of injustice.

Love the idea of giving something yummy and homemade to friends? Scared to mess it up? Then Starrlight Mead has the class for you. You will be taken step by step through making a “cyser” (honey and apple).  You will learn how to properly sanitize and about the equipment needed to make a great homemade mead! You will take home your own gallon of mead\, made during the class\, with instructions on what to do with it when you get home. No mead-making experience is necessary. All class participants must be over 21 – no exceptions. The registration deadline is Sun\, Oct 1. $75 for individuals or $100 for couples. \nSat\, Oct 21\, 10am-1pm Intermediate Home Mead Making – Traditionals: Honey and Yeast\nThis intermediate class discusses how to make a good\, traditional mead. It’s harder than many people think to create an environment that will keep the yeast happy. You’ll start with honey and how the different flavors of varietal honey can impact the flavor of the mead. Participants will be tasting honey\, varietal traditional meads\, and a yeast experiment to see how the decision of ingredients can impact the finished mead. You’ll also cover yeast nutrients to keep the little “yeasty beasties” happy! All class participants must be over 21 – no exceptions. The registration deadline is Sun\, Oct 15. $50 for individuals or $75 for couples. \nmonthly sound baths\nFridays\, 7:30pm-8:30pm\, Candleglow Sound Bath Meditation Oct 20\, Nov 17\, Dec 15\nThe nighttime sonic ceremony is back by popular demand on the third Friday of each month for a candle-lit evening sound bath featuring a variety of singing bowls\, chimes\, and percussion accompanying the human voice. Honoring seasonal cycles\, Ancient Song Therapy crafts sonic landscapes that are conducive to relaxation and meditation\, as well as journey work and integration. RSVP is required. DESCRIPTION:Join Piedmont Farm Animal Refuge and 2022 Artist in Residence\, Yoshimi House (of Maybel Arts) for a Vegan Fashion Pop-Up and Live Photoshoot Sun\, Oct 23 from 1-3 pm. \nThis event at the Refuge Pavilion includes a runway show and live photoshoot\, as well as a presentation by Yoshimi who will be presenting three custom made jackets inspired by the animals and beautiful land at Piedmont Farm Animal Refuge. As the 2022 Artist in Residence\, Yoshimi spent hours of time with the animal residents and created these designs through the process of observing\, learning\, and photographing. \nThe event will also feature art from HIIDE THE LABEL\, WHICHKIM by Dahae Miller\, and REILLY. \nVegan hors d’oeuvres and alcohol will be provided. \nThis event is free to attend\, but RSVP is required and space will be limited!
