DESCRIPTION:Join Triangle Land Conservancy for a New Year’s Day Hike on Thu\, Jan 1\, 9am-11:30am at White Pines Nature Preserve. Join TLC Trail Guides Steve G. and Pam M. on this relaxed\, social hike to get outside and start the year right! White Pines Nature Preserve contains species not typically found in the North Carolina Piedmont\, but they remain here from the last ice age because the surrounding rivers create a microclimate. \nThere will be multiple stops along the way to learn about the preserve’s ecology and history. Please wear comfortable walking shoes and warm layers. and bring a full water bottle along. This is a free event\, but registration is required. If registration is closed\, please email Amaya Horner at ahorner@triangleland.org to be added to the waitlist. \nCURRENT MASK POLICY \nTLC seeks to build a supportive\, mask-friendly environment in all collaborations with staff and the public. The Mahamrityunjaya Mantra\, or the Great Death-Conquering Mantra\, is a powerful mantra chanted during times of transition or significant change to protect\, heal\, and overcome fears. \nFor this practice\, you will chant this sacred mantra 108 times together to lift the collective vibration and invite healing\, release\, and peace. Bring your favorite mala beads if you wish to keep count. You will start with a brief discussion of the mantra and setting intentions. Not to worry if you aren’t already familiar with this mantra. You will practice pronunciation together\, and handouts will be provided so that you may follow along. \nThis is offered by donation\, with all teacher proceeds going to CORA\, a local organization dedicated to providing nutritious food to community members facing food insecurity and to helping create a healthy\, strong\, connected community without hunger. DESCRIPTION:Join Sip & ScriptⓇ at Starrlight Mead for Modern Calligraphy Fun during this Valentine’s/Galentine’s Modern Calligraphy for Beginners workshop on Sun\, Jan 18\, 2pm-3:30pm. Whether you’re a stationery nerd\, DIY Bride-to-be\, or just a crafty individual\, you’ll be introduced to modern calligraphy with a pointed dip pen and ink in this workshop. The workshop will cover all the basics and prepare you to add those unique lettered details to your snail mail\, wedding paper goods\, home decor\, and more! \nEnjoy a perfect crafty afternoon out! Feel free to arrive early\, grab your seat\, and purchase snacks or additional drinks (snacks and drinks are available throughout the class). Class will start promptly at 2pm. \nYes\, lefties are welcome\, too! This class is recommended for anyone who has never taken a calligraphy class. They teach the basics\, and they expect that you have ink flowing through your nib with enough confidence to practice well beyond class. They love using tracing paper with their guides to help you build muscle memory and develop your own style!  If you have tried calligraphy before\, this class will be a great refresher and a chance to try new supplies from our beginner kit that will reintroduce you to this lovely form of art! \nRegistration is $73 per person and includes 1.5 hours of instruction and demonstration\, a beginner’s calligraphy kit (two nibs\, a black ink pot\, two letter guides\, tracing paper\, and a straight pen holder)\, materials to write on\, and one drink (mead/honey wine\, cider\, or a non-alcoholic beverage). Everything is yours to keep at the end of the workshop! A note on bringing guests ages 16 and under: Sip & ScriptⓇ loves to share this passion with kids. You are welcome to get a ticket for your child if you are comfortable with people around them having a drink or two. They require that a ticketed adult accompany anyone under 16 at all times. \nStarrlight Mead is part of The Plant.
