DESCRIPTION:Visit the past and marvel at how things were done at the 51st Annual Old-Fashioned Farmers’ Days Sat\, Aug 29-Sun Aug 30\, 9am-6pm\, the longest-running event in Chatham County. The Old-Fashioned Farmers’ Day event is held every Labor Day weekend at the Silk Hope Farm Heritage Park. Admission is $5 per person and free for children ages 6 and under. \nExhibits\, demonstrations\, and entertainment occur throughout the day\, including clogging in the show barn\, antique tractor pulls\, a junior dairy show\, raffle drawings\, and much more. \nDIRECTIONS \nThe festival is located one hour west of Raleigh\, NC\, off US 64\, one-hour southeast of Greensboro via US 421 and US 64\, 45 minutes south of Burlington\, NC\, via NC 87 and Lindley Mill/Silk Hope-Lindley Mill Rd\, and six miles northeast of Siler City\, Chatham County\, NC.

Fire on the Beach explores the dangers of 19th-century coastal transportation along North Carolina’s “Graveyard of the Atlantic\,” where ships carrying goods and people faced constant danger. Through the story of Richard Etheridge and the all-black crew of the US Life-Saving Service\, the crew faced discrimination and the dangers of the Atlantic\, yet rose to heroism in their service. DESCRIPTION:As part of Chatham County’s year-long celebration of America’s 250th birthday\, the Chatham County Historical Association (CCHA) is hosting an NC History Book Club: Between the Lines\, held on the third Saturday of every month in 2026\, from 9:30am-10:30am. This monthly book club will explore North Carolina’s rich history through engaging nonfiction. Whether you’re a lifelong history lover or are simply curious about the people and events that shaped our state\, join CCHA for conversation and lively discussion. \nRegister here for the June 2026 session\, where you will discuss Fire on the Beach: Recovering the Lost Story of Richard Etheridge and the Pea Island Lifesavers by David Wright and David Zoby. Fire on the Beach explores the dangers of 19th-century coastal transportation along North Carolina’s “Graveyard of the Atlantic\,” where ships carrying goods and people faced constant danger. Through the story of Richard Etheridge and the all-black crew of the US Life-Saving Service\, the crew faced discrimination and the dangers of the Atlantic\, yet rose to heroism in their service. Participation is free\, and you are welcome to bring friends. This month’s event takes place Sat\, Jun 20\, 9:30am-10:30am at the Chatham County Courthouse and Historical Museum. \nAll are welcome\, and admission is free. To register and for more information\, click here. This event takes place indoors. The Courthouse and Historical Museum is ADA-accessible. Free parking is available across the street in front of the Chatham County Government Annex. No pets allowed. This event is part of our Chatham Celebrates America 250 initiative.
