Here\, you can purchase refuge merchandise and learn even more about their mission. They’ll explore the pollination process\, as well as the specific life cycles and nutritional needs of these vital species. Understanding these rhythms is the secret to moving beyond a “pretty” garden to a truly functional\, life-sustaining one. \nWhether you are starting with a blank slate or looking to enhance an established landscape\, you’ll leave with a curated list of native plants that provide high-impact support for our local winged friends. You will gain the foundational knowledge needed to foster a bird- and bee-friendly habitat right in your own backyard\, ensuring your garden is a place where nature can truly flourish. Come ready to learn how a few intentional choices can make a world of difference for our local environment.  \nInstructor Jeanne Arnts is a Durham County Extension Master Gardener and NC Journeyman Beekeeper and has certificates in Native Plants from the NC Botanical Garden and Bird Friendly Habitat Committee of the New Hope Bird Alliance. \nThe cost is $15 per person and includes a small gift and a coupon to shop at the Garden Center. DESCRIPTION:Join The Plant for a Sustainable Spirits and Plant Swap on Thu\, May 7\, 5:30pm-7:30pm in celebration of International Composting Week! Sustainable Spirits are rotating events throughout the state and are organized by the North Carolina Composting Council. These casual networking events that bring together others who are passionate about sustainability\, composting\, healthy soils\, and climate resilience. Those who attend this one can enter a raffle to win a FREE backyard compost bin and kitchen collector\, courtesy of Chatham County Solid Waste and Recycling. Attendees can also participate in a plant swap\, with some donated plants from the Plant’s own Rachel’s Native Plants nursery. Free appetizers will also be available\, due to the support of McGill Environmental Systems. Those interested in attending this free event are encouraged to RSVP here.  \nSip and shop the Chatham Beverage District\, part of the Chatham County Craft Beverages & Country Inns Trail\, with local beers from bmc brewing\, wines and ciders from Starrlight\, spirits from Fair Game\, and sake from Koshu. Local dining available at Kingston 99 Kitchen and Ta Contento. \nMost events are rain or shine; if they have to cancel\, they will do so as far in advance as possible. Free parking is available onsite. Leashed\, well-behaved pets are allowed outside; pet policies may vary by individual business. Activities will include: \n\nGetting messy with visual arts.\nMoving and grooving with music and dance.\nDiving deep into your journals\, stories\, and conversations.\nGetting silly with random activities.\nProtecting space for some “serious” relaxation.\nPlaying hard with some big all-camp games.\n\nThe day will include a variety of workshops in the morning and afternoon: \n\nDrumming\, songwriting\, and music jams.\nBook and printmaking.\nFinger painting and body art.\nForaging and nature mandalas.\nArchery and ultimate frisbee.\nNap time with Kora music.\n\nThe camp day will also include morning and closing circles\, a small-group check-in\, and an invitation to begin the day with meditation\, movement\, or art. Guest artists will share about their Artful Life\, with a chance to reflect on your own journey after hearing their story. Every day\, campers will enjoy delicious vegan snacks and cook their own plant-based lunches alongside a talented vegan chef. \nThe heart of Camp Compassion is building meaningful connections with the amazing animals at the Refuge\, including goats\, sheep\, chickens\, turkeys\, ducks\, geese\, cows\, and one delightful guinea fowl named Frizzle!
