DESCRIPTION:Are you ready for Piedmont Farm Animal Refuge’s FREE Vegan Spring Potluck on Sat\, Apr 18\, 5:30pm-9pm? These events have been so popular and successful\, and they hope this one will be the best yet! PFAR vegan potlucks are great opportunities for vegans and vegan-curious individuals to meet like-minded people\, engage in meaningful conversations\, and share delicious food. Board games are available on-site\, but please feel free to bring any games from home to share. \nLike always\, this event is free! Here are a couple of important notes: \n\nPlease bring your own plates\, forks\, bowls\, and other eating utensils from home to help make the event environmentally friendly and reduce the use of disposables.\nPlease also bring a note card listing the ingredients in your dish(es) to help those with specific food allergies.\n\nThe event also includes a meet-and-greet with their cow residents. Two experienced Tour Guides will introduce you to the Refuge herd of eight curious\, social cows\, including a three-generational family. \nThis family-friendly event is a great opportunity to celebrate warmer weather\, longer days\, and compassionate living. RSVP and let them know what you’re thinking of bringing using this link!  \nThere is an ADA-certified porta-potty on site\, and a portable handwashing station has also been installed. Please note: Animal residents will not be available during this event\, except for the cows\, which may approach the Pavilion fence line. SUMMARY:2026 Annual Spring Cleanup at Jordan Lake
DESCRIPTION:Join Clean Up Jordan Lake for their 2026 Annual Spring Cleanup on Sat\, Mar 14\, 8:30am-12pm. Clean Jordan Lake is joining a group of local organizations hosting cleanup events as part of Creek Week activities\, including the Chatham County\, Orange County\, and Keep Durham Beautiful. Assignments include: \n\nWalkers: You will be divided into groups at registration.\nBoaters: Boaters are needed to ferry some volunteers to their cleanup track and back\, and also to help haul trash back to the dumpster at the Corps Bulkhead. Boaters who wish to ferry volunteers only are welcome. They will loan 2-way radios to boaters for communication.\nKayakers: Come to the registration table at 8:45am to receive assignments from CJL leaders.\n\nThis year\, they continue their tradition of offering a Trash Treasure Hunt. Items marked by “CJL TTH” are shown to the track captain\, who will issue a CJL business card redeemable for a merchandise prize at the registration table. Coffee and pastries will be available during registration. \nAll volunteers must wear closed-toe shoes and work gloves (provided or bring your own). They strongly recommend long pants\, a long-sleeve shirt\, and a hat. Shoreline Track Captains will be present to guide volunteers. Volunteers will be provided with bags\, trash grabbers\, first-aid kits\, water\, and gloves\, if needed. Pontoon boat and operator courtesy of U.S. Army Corps of Engineers \nAll participants must complete a liability waiver form online before the event. Waiver forms for Adults and Minors (age 11-18) must be submitted online by going to: \n\nAdults- https://www.cleanjordanlake.org/volunteer-waiver.\nMinors- https://www.cleanjordanlake.org/minor-waiver.\n\nDue to potential hazards\, they cannot allow children under 11 to participate. Children over the age of 11 and under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult. \nDIRECTIONS \nGo to Jordan Lake State Recreation Area\, New Hope Access. Go straight past the ticket booth onto a dirt road. Follow the signs to parking. Space is limited on the narrow road\, so please carpool or arrange a drop-off if possible. Volunteers will be on-site to assist with parking.  Here’s where to go. \nThis event is free and takes place outdoors. This is not a safe activity for pets—please leave your furry friends at home. DESCRIPTION:Join Chatham County Cooperative Extension for Creating Diverse Habitat for Pollinators and Other Beneficial Insects on Wed\, Feb 18\, 2pm-5pm at the Chatham County Agriculture & Conference Center (CCACC). This in-person workshop will discuss how to create habitats for pollinators and other beneficial insects. The target audience is farmers and gardeners. \n\n\nNC State University\, in collaboration with N.C. Cooperative Extension and the NC Botanical Garden were awarded a two-year grant from the Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education (SARE) program to study pollinator and beneficial insect habitat on farms. The team will present a workshop to share results from this project. Drawing on lessons learned over the three years\, the team developed practical guidance and recommendations for getting started\, which will be shared during this workshop. \n\n\nSeating is limited for this free event\, so registration is required. The cost is $10 per person and includes unlimited black ink. \nPop-ups will take place on the following dates: \n\nSat\, Jan 24\, 2pm-6pm.\nSat\, Feb 7\, 2pm-6pm.\n\nSip and shop the Chatham Beverage District\, part of the Chatham County Craft Beverages & Country Inns Trail\, with local beers from bmc brewing\, wines and ciders from Starrlight\, spirits from Fair Game\, and sake from Koshu.
