After purchasing rugged mountain land in Sonoma County’s Knights Valley — much of it volcanic hillside above the fog line — he and his family planted vineyards across three distinct estate sites: Knights Valley\, Oakville in Napa\, and Seaview on the Sonoma Coast\, preserving the majority of the nearly 1\,200-acre property as wildlife habitat. \nABOUT THE OWNERS \nPaul Michael graduated from the Ecole Hôtelière de Lausanne in 1990 and spent his early career in the hotel and restaurant business\, living in London\, Zurich\, Lausanne\, Paris\, and Dubai\, before completing his MBA at Ashridge Management College in 1994 and joining the family business. Paul was also the executive producer of the preschool educational television series Tiny Planets\, in co-production with Sesame Workshop. DESCRIPTION:Come out for a night of baseball and watch Chatham Yardbirds vs Carolina Yankees at the new Chatham Yardbirds field in Paul Braxton Park on the following dates: \n\nWed\, May 27\, 7pm-10pm First Home Game of the Season!\nFri\, Jun 12\, 7pm-10pm.\n\nGates typically open about an hour before first pitch. The team plays an Old North State League schedule against opponents from across North Carolina and southern Virginia\, with most games on weekday evenings and weekend afternoons or nights. Tickets are general admission and inexpensive\, so families tend to show up in groups\, find seats close to the action\, and stay through the seventh-inning stretch. \nThe pace is the appeal. Wood bats sound different from the metal you hear at most amateur fields\, the players are all college athletes spending their summer chasing reps\, and the gap between the action and the crowd is small enough that you can hear the catcher talking. Between innings\, the staff runs the kinds of small-park promotions that summer collegiate league has built its reputation on: t-shirt tosses\, on-field contests\, kids chasing foul balls in the gravel. If one of those players is staying with a host family two streets over\, you might see him at the diner the next morning. That’s the trade summer ball makes for not being a major-league night out: you get closer to the game\, and closer to the people playing it. \nVisiting from out of town? Pair a Yardbirds game with dinner in downtown Siler City beforehand\, or a slow drive home through Chatham County’s farm roads after the final out. \nWeather\nPack layers for night games\, as central North Carolina evenings can drop into the 60s in early summer. Along with lots of permission to do what you are called to do\, including a lot of beautiful “nothing” if that is what you choose\, Clapping Hands Farm invites you to bring home a new commitment to yourself and the things that make you happy. \nLouise Omoto Kessel will be your guide for this week\, along with an excellent selection of guest artists. Louise is a storyteller and a printmaker\, and she loves to felt\, collage\, and make all manner of things. She is also the founder and director of Clapping Hands Farm and the mother of two young adults. \nTrans\, non-binary\, gender-fluid\, and gender-creative humans who want to participate in Women’s Week Camp are welcome! Ages 18+ are welcome. The cost is $325 per person. Scholarships are available\, and no one is turned away. Chatham County residents receive a $25 discount. You may sign up by the day. SUMMARY:Women's Week Camp at Clapping Hands Farm
DESCRIPTION:The Women’s Week Camp at Clapping Hands Farm\, hosted Sat\, May 23-Wed\, May 27\, 9am-4pm\, is about creativity\, relaxation\, and sisterhood in equal measure. You’ll feel rested\, nurtured\, befriended\, and inspired. Camp days will include movement\, thanksgiving\, play\, a selection of different workshops\, leisurely lunches\, a check-in with a small group\, and circles to begin and end the day. Along with lots of permission to do what you are called to do\, including a lot of beautiful “nothing” if that is what you choose\, Clapping Hands Farm invites you to bring home a new commitment to yourself and the things that make you happy. \nLouise Omoto Kessel will be your guide for this week\, along with an excellent selection of guest artists. Louise is a storyteller and a printmaker\, and she loves to felt\, collage\, and make all manner of things. She is also the founder and director of Clapping Hands Farm and the mother of two young adults. \nTrans\, non-binary\, gender-fluid\, and gender-creative humans who want to participate in Women’s Week Camp are welcome! Ages 18+ are welcome. The cost is $325 per person. Scholarships are available\, and no one is turned away. Chatham County residents receive a $25 discount. You may sign up by the day. DESCRIPTION:Join The Plant for Live Music with Awen Family Band on Sun\, May 24\, 3pm-6pm. Awen Family Band is a nationally touring world boogie collective founded by singer-songwriter and coddie-wompler Tim Husk in the summer of 2019. The Awen Family played their first show at Kings in Raleigh\, NC\, on June 5th and has since performed at festivals\, concert series\, venues\, parks\, and backyards around the country. The band has featured an ever-changing all-star cast of artists who believe they are moving the message from one plane to another. “We don’t create the lesson\, only move the message.” They don’t create the art\, but are vessels for the great spirit to move through them\, to inspire and to be inspired by the life around them. The band has featured members of Toubab Krewe\, Big Something\, Dr. Bacon\, Charlie Hunter\, The Kind Thieves\, The Fundamentals\, Self Help\, TUB\, Firewater Tent Revival\, Custard Pie\, Mellow Swells\, The Moon Unit\, FRUTE\, and many other acts. Blending roots music from around the globe\, such as Zydeco\, Bluegrass\, Funk\, West African Traditional Music\, Old Time\, Indie\, Swing\, Celtic\, Folk\, Psychedelic\, Jam\, Boogie\, and many more\, topped with their own unique sound and lyrics to spread the message for all who seek to hear. \nThere is no cover for music\, but tips for the musicians are encouraged. Most events are rain or shine; if they have to cancel\, they will do so as far in advance as possible. Free parking is available onsite.
