SUMMARY:Tinkering School NC
DESCRIPTION:Tinkering School NC at Sun Star Farm is a small group of 12 campers led by 2 counselors and a 3rd counselor during peak building times. Once they cover skills and safety\, campers collaborate to create an awesome large-scale project based on a theme chosen late Monday/Tuesday morning\, depending on skill level\, interest\, and weather conditions. They use impact drivers\, cordless drills\, levels\, measuring tapes\, and other basic carpentry hand tools.  Each camper is given safety glasses and ear muff hearing protection. Every day\, they mix in group games\, visit farm animals\, explore the farm\, play water games\, and go down the water slide to keep cool. \nThey save 4 spots for girls during the registration period\, so they end up with a nice ratio of boys to girls.  If any of the “girl” spots are not taken by March 1st\, they open them to boys on the waitlist. There is a 6:1 counselor-to-camper ratio. This camp is for children ages 9-12. \nCamp is $499/week. Early care starts at 8am and is $35/week. SUMMARY:Summer Camp at New Beginnings Farm
DESCRIPTION:New Beginnings Farm offers Summer Camps specializing in teaching basic balanced positions and horsemanship\, and in providing fun outdoor activities. This camp is perfect for horse lovers of all ages and levels who want a hands-on experience with horses. They have beginner school horses perfect for the most beginner and timid of riders\, as well as intermediate/advanced horses who can school higher-level dressage movements and jump 3’3 courses. New Beginnings Farm is all about meeting individuals’ wants and needs\, so they can facilitate both English and Western riding. Riding sessions will include trail rides\, riding with cows\, mounted games\, jumping\, dressage\, lunge lessons\, and bareback riding\, depending on the camper’s riding level and desires.  \nWhen not riding\, campers will learn all about horse care and participate in horse-related arts and crafts. The day is finished off with a self-packed lunch and supervised swimming. Campers with their own horse are welcome to keep their horse at New Beginnings Farm for the duration of the camp at no additional charge. They keep their camp numbers low to provide a more personal and safe environment\, so be sure to let them know if you are interested in attending so they can reserve your spot! Through the story of Richard Etheridge and the all-black crew of the US Life-Saving Service\, the crew faced discrimination and the dangers of the Atlantic\, yet rose to heroism in their service. The team plays an Old North State League schedule against opponents from across North Carolina and southern Virginia\, with most games on weekday evenings and weekend afternoons or nights. Tickets are general admission and inexpensive\, so families tend to show up in groups\, find seats close to the action\, and stay through the seventh-inning stretch. \nThe pace is the appeal. Wood bats sound different from the metal you hear at most amateur fields\, the players are all college athletes spending their summer chasing reps\, and the gap between the action and the crowd is small enough that you can hear the catcher talking. Between innings\, the staff runs the kinds of small-park promotions that summer collegiate league has built its reputation on: t-shirt tosses\, on-field contests\, kids chasing foul balls in the gravel. DESCRIPTION:Piedmont Farm Animal Refuge is thrilled to offer their first-ever LEAP (Leaders for Ethics\, Animals\, and the Planet) Summer Camp\, held Mon\, Jul 20-Thu\, Jul 24\, 8am-4pm. A compassionate alternative to 4-H\, this FREE Summer Camp for incoming 9th-12th graders offers community building\, leadership training\, hands-on learning\, and quality time getting to know their animal residents. Participants will also learn all about the Refuge’s pioneering approach to designing and building animal habitats\, which they call Animal-Centered Design. Campers will participate in animal care in a sanctuary setting\, practice climate-friendly cooking with a vegan chef\, develop leadership skills\, engage in therapeutic art practices\, and build community with their staff\, volunteers\, animal residents\, and one another. \nThe cost is FREE\, and includes daily vegan snacks and lunches; applications are required. Camp weeks are enhanced by a special visitor every Wednesday morning. A structured activity or form of entertainment is shared with the whole group. Seasonal free-play options throughout the day include: \n\nSports\, games\, and play structures.\nCrafts.\nCreek and sand play.\nVisiting with the goats and collecting eggs.\nFort building and tree climbing.\nSlip-n-sliding with a break for homemade popsicles.\nTrail walks and campfires.\n\nCamps occur on a 26-acre farm in Pittsboro\, NC\, run by Camp Director Melissa Frey and her adult daughter\, Marinne. Melissa provides structure\, safety\, and supplies to help campers accomplish their ideas for the day. Melissa is passionate about the benefits of significant free-play time for all ages\, away from electronics. The farm offers its own microclimates and activity spaces\, so there’s lots of flexibility for activities. DESCRIPTION:Forest Tinkering Camp at Sun Star Farm is a small group of 12 campers led by 2 counselors. The farm camp is split into four age groups to offer age-appropriate activities\, stories\, creative projects\, and learning opportunities (see Sun Star Farm Camp for kids ages 4-12). Each group has its own indoor and outdoor spaces\, allowing flexibility and ease in adapting to the day’s rhythm to suit the children’s needs. Camp Director Heidi Watkins\, a mother of three and educator\, is on the farm at all times and is intimately involved in every aspect of running the camp and engaging the children at Sun Star Farm.  \nSprouts camp is for kids ages 3-4 and 6 months old and costs $300/week. Sprouts aftercare is available until 3pm ($195/week) or 5:30pm​ ($300/week). A monthly payment plan is available at checkout. Pay only a $75 non-refundable deposit now to secure your spot.
