Through the story of Richard Etheridge and the all-black crew of the US Life-Saving Service\, the crew faced discrimination and the dangers of the Atlantic\, yet rose to heroism in their service. This is a great opportunity to learn more about small farm life\, with plenty of fun for the whole family. The price is $10 per person at the gate\, with kids ages 2 and under receiving free admission. The Inn offers homemade lunch and other goodies for sale (including vegetarian options) for an additional cost. \nOpen Barns are rain or shine\, so if it’s cold\, make sure to bundle up\, and if it’s wet\, wear your boots! Most of the event takes place under cover (and the baby goats will help keep you warm)! Free parking is available on-site. No pets are allowed. \nBook a stay at the inn to get in on all the baby goat fun\, including daily baby bottle feedings! 2-hour private barn tours are also available throughout the season (February-April 2026). Celebrity Dairy will guide you through how to feed the goats and answer all your goat-related questions. Bookings are $225 for groups of up to 15 and $15 per additional guest. Any type of chili is eligible and will be judged on the following criteria: \n\nAroma: Does it smell appetizing?\nAppearance: Is the color rich and appealing? Does it look appetizing and reflect its ingredients?\nConsistency: Is it a smooth\, balanced blend of ingredients? Avoid watery\, greasy\, grainy\, or overly thick/lumpy textures.\n Taste: Is there a good blend of flavor? No single ingredient should dominate.\nAftertaste: Should not leave behind a bitter/metallic taste\, and the heat should fade nicely.\n\nEach category will be ranked on a scale of 1-5\, with 1 being the worst and 5 the best. 2-3 judges will be present to blind-taste each contestant’s chili and score it according to the above criteria. There is no cooking on site. Everything must be prepared in advance and kept warm throughout the event. If you wish to bring toppings/sides\, you may do so\, but you will be judged on the chili alone. There is a $15 buy-in to compete as a contestant. This includes a T-shirt\, 2 draft beers on the day of\, and a chili cookbook featuring all the contestants’ chili recipes after the competition. DESCRIPTION:Join the Chatham County Historical Association for The Regulator Movement and the Revolution in the North Carolina Backcountry on Sun\, Mar 1\, 2pm-3:30pm. Carole Troxler\, Professor Emerita at Elon University\, will discuss the years leading up to the American Revolution\, in which yeoman farmers in North Carolina’s Piedmont farmland became increasingly angry about the corruption and dishonesty among the colonial officials who collected their taxes and enforced their laws. A wave of popular support for stricter regulation of these laws slowly spread throughout the Piedmont\, resulting in years of minor clashes between the farmer ‘Regulators’ and the royal militia. Although the militia finally defeated the Regulators at the Battle of Alamance in 1771\, the seeds of revolt were planted. This little-known rebellion in North Carolina highlighted the growing discontent among American colonists with colonial rule and helped set the stage for the American Revolution. \nThis event takes place indoors. The Chatham County Historic Courthouse and Museum is ADA-accessible. No pets allowed. Please leave your furry friends at home. DESCRIPTION:Carolina Tiger Rescue is excited to offer its new Home School Middle School Program\, hosted every Tuesday\, Mar 3-24\, 9am-12pm. This program gives students a glimpse into what it takes to care for the animals at Carolina Tiger Rescue across 4 areas. Students will spend a morning on each of the following topics: \n\nAnimal Behavior: What is it\, and how can understanding it help us better care for animals?\nEnclosure Design and Enrichment: What requirements have to be met to house large and small carnivores? What does it take to keep our animals physically and mentally healthy?\nVet Care: What happens when an animal gets sick? How do we care for aging animals? What challenges does our animal care staff face with our animals in terms of health?\nProblems in the Wild: What problems do the wild cousins of our residents face? What can we do to help?\n\nThis fast-paced\, STEM-centered program is sure to keep your student engaged while learning about unique challenges that arise when caring for large and small wild cats! SUMMARY:Spring 2026 Homeschool Camp at Clapping Hands Farm
DESCRIPTION:Join Clapping Hands Farm for their Spring 2026 Homeschool Camp\, hosted every Thursday\, Mar 5-Apr 16\, 9am-3:30pm. Clapping Hands is an arts and nature camp and retreat with a special love for community. Our homeschool camp workshops include visual arts\, crafts\, music\, theater\, and dance\, as well as engineering\, building\, nature exploration\, game creation\, and more! \nGENERAL SCHEDULE \n\nCamp opens with games\, Morning Circle\, and morning workshops in focus groups. Each session will have at least two Morning Workshop Focus Groups; campers choose one Focus Group to join for the entire 6-week session.\nLunch.\nAnything Goes and all-camp activities in the afternoon. Activities are different each day\, are based on campers’ requests\, and include opportunities to explore both focus groups. In other words\, if you are interested in both Focus Groups\, you can sign up for one of them for the morning and still be able to “taste” the others during Anything Goes.\nBuddy Group check-in and a Closing Circle before departure.\n\nSee this page for this program’s Focus Groups. \nDETAILS AND LOGISTICS \nCamp is $400 per child\, with full and partial scholarships available. Homeschool Camp serves children and teens ages 8-16. They accept older campers who are interested in their Focus Group topics. They also accept younger campers on a case-by-case basis. Parents\, adults\, and older teens are also needed as Counselors or Volunteers. Parent volunteers at Homeschool camp do so much to make this program fantastic! \nCamp at Clapping Hands Farm takes place outdoors for the most part. They generally run camp in all weather conditions unless there are hazardous driving conditions or it is cold AND wet. In other words\, if it’s raining and 70 degrees\, they will have camp. If it’s 30 degrees and not raining\, we will have camp. But if it’s 40 degrees and raining\, they will skip camp and use their weather make-up day (Thu\, Apr 23). During the winter session\, they will have a heated studio available that can accommodate one group. Please note that no class will take place on Thu\, Apr 2. \nSee more events at Clapping Hands Farm.
