SUMMARY:Live Music: Grupo Caribe Vibe
DESCRIPTION:Join The Plant for Live Music with Grupo Caribe Vibe on Tue\, May 5\, 5pm-8pm. Grupo Caribe Vibe is the newest musical project under the umbrella of SalsaWiz Productions (a local entertainment company)\, which is the home for other Latin musical acts such as “Orquesta K’che”\, “Jazziando Latin Jazz & More”\, “The PM Trio”\, among others. Since there are already a few local Latin dance bands that are nine- to twelve-member strong\, it was decided to create a smaller lineup. It was decided to structure Caribe Vibe as a three-piece band. With Carmen Velez on lead vocals\, along with Christian Velez and Billy Marrero on percussion. With the addition of musical tracks\, Caribe Vibe can perform the same upbeat styles of Latin music as the larger bands: Salsa\, Merengue\, Cumbia\, Bachata\, and Bolero. \nSip and shop the Chatham Beverage District\, part of the Chatham County Craft Beverages & Country Inns Trail\, with local beers from bmc brewing\, wines and ciders from Starrlight\, spirits from Fair Game\, and sake from Koshu. DESCRIPTION:History comes to life on Sun\, May 3\, 12pm-2pm with a Living History Event. The Chatham County Historical Association will host the Jordan Lake School of the Arts in a student-produced living history event to celebrate our country’s 250th anniversary. The students have researched figures from Chatham’s past\, including William Hooper\, Lewis Freeman\, and William Siler\, to name a few\, bringing them to life in the historic Chatham County Courthouse. \nStudents in period dress will deliver short talks about their characters. The audience is invited to stroll from one historic figure to another\, meeting and learning about the characters and their impact on Chatham County. This Living History Event is a keystone project in the students’ history curriculum. Come support their efforts and enjoy an afternoon of Chatham County history with an upcoming generation of amazing Chatham County students. Everyone is welcome at this free event. \nThis free community event takes place indoors. The historic courthouse is ADA-compliant. Free parking is available behind the courthouse. No pets allowed. SUMMARY:Stories in Blue: A Community Indigo Project
DESCRIPTION:Join the Chatham Arts Council for Stories in Blue: A Community Indigo Project on Sun\, May 3\, 10am-3pm at the Chatham County Arts Center. Stories in Blue: A Community Indigo Project with Deena Class brings community members together through the shared wonder of indigo—how this one plant pigment has been worked with by cultures all over the world for thousands of years. \nThe project will culminate in free public workshops\, and participants will pre-register so that Deena can ensure adequate space\, supplies\, and materials. These workshops will take place in April 2026 and lead to the unveiling of the community indigo quilt in May 2026. During the workshops\, each participant will dye two fabric squares—one to take home and one to contribute to the community quilt—and each person will also receive an indigo seedling (Persicaria tinctoria) to nurture at home. In addition\, community members can attend free drop-in quilt-making sessions at the Chatham Parks and Rec Arts Center in downtown Pittsboro on May 3\, where they will piece and quilt the indigo creation together (no sewing experience necessary). Through the quilt\, the seedlings\, and the stories participants share\, the project will carry forward the idea that indigo belongs to everyone. It will honor indigo not only as a color or craft\, but also as a living thread that runs through generations and across cultures\, continents\, and communities. \nThis free community event takes place indoors. DESCRIPTION:Join the Chatham Arts Council for Holds Many Secrets. Hides Many Stories: The Robeson Creek Greenway Project on Sat\, May 2\, 1pm-2:30pm at the Robeson Creek Greenway in Pittsboro. What does it feel like to really notice the world around you? This new installation by Felix Obelix (aka Wendy Spitzer) weaves together community voices\, field recordings\, original music\, and visual art into an immersive experience along the Robeson Creek Greenway in Pittsboro. Come walk\, listen\, and experience your community in a new way during the project’s premiere. \nThe project comprises a quasi-documentary audio piece\, divided into two ~11-minute sections. You’ll walk together\, listening to segment 1 in one direction\, then turn around and listen to segment 2 as you walk back to the origin point. The entire audio piece runs ~22 minutes. Then\, there will be a short presentation of the public artwork also made for this project (based on community-generated\, greenway-related bird data!)\, followed by a Q&A with the artist. \nThis free community event takes place outdoors. Participants will meet at the S. Small Street entrance to the greenway. Please be mindful of neighbors’ lawns and driveways when parking. Bring your smartphone and headphones/earbuds! You will access the audio project on your phone and listen to it through your headphones while walking the greenway together. Make sure to bring a water bottle and shoes you can walk in! Robeson Creek Greenway is accessible for wheelchairs and strollers; it is paved and relatively flat. \nParking is available along S. Small Street\, or you can use the public parking lot at Main Street Station. Please cross East Street (Business 64) if you choose to park there. The S. DESCRIPTION:Join Chatham Community Library and Friends of the Lower Haw for Trails and Treats on Sat\, May 2\, 10am-11am. Trails and Treats is the first statewide trail guide written by women in NC\, combining two favorite activities – hiking and trail running – with tasty treats that can top off your outdoor adventures. Authors Hollis Oberlies and Palmer McIntyre created this guidebook for people of all ages and abilities who want to plan a fun day exploring our state. They have selected hikes and runs in four general areas of the state – the mountains\, the Triad\, the Triangle\, and the Charlotte area. Often\, there is a trail near your home that will bring joy and gratitude\, and a workout if that’s your goal. The authors have included trail tips to help you plan your adventures\, as well as recommendations for some tasty local places to eat. Their book also includes some of their favorite breakfast and trail snack recipes that are easy to whip up\, tasty\, and nourishing. The authors hope this guide inspires you to try these trails and eats\, and to explore others throughout North Carolina or wherever you go! \nBecause 2026 is the 20th Anniversary of the Haw River Trail\, this event will include a brief presentation by Friends of Lower Haw River about the Haw River State Trail and Chatham County’s local gem\, the Lower Haw River State Natural Area. Friends of Lower Haw River is a member of the trail organizations Friends of Haw River State Trail and the Great Trails State Coalition. The event is free and open to the public. Participating Chatham County farms include: \n\nThe Inn at Celebrity Dairy.\nChatham Oaks Farm (Opens at 12pm\, snacks available for purchase).\nGranite Springs Farm.\nGreen Heal Farms (Opens at 12pm).\nLittle Pond Gardens at The Plant (Opens at 12pm\, snacks available for purchase).\nLittle Way Farm (Open Saturday only).\n\nTour 30+ local\, scenic\, and sustainable farms in five North Carolina counties (Orange\, Durham\, Alamance\, Person\, and Chatham). Discover the delicious meat\, dairy\, mushrooms\, fruits\, and veggies produced in the Piedmont! Farm visits include pasture-raised livestock farms\, baby animals\, fiber demonstrations\, hayrides\, farm equipment on display\, an award-winning cheese dairy\, locally grown and fermented pickles\, newly established orchards\, food trucks\, locally grown hops\, a farm with a brewery on site\, and organically grown produce farms. \nVisualize your route with Wander Maps.
