DESCRIPTION:In Cover Crops: Your Garden’s New Best Friend! on Thu\, Oct 23\, 9:30am-11am\, participants will learn from the Extension Master Gardener Volunteers of Chatham County about the many different legumes and grasses to use as cover crops\, what they can do for your soil and garden\, and how to include them in your garden planning. After the lecture\, you will head outside to the Extension Master Gardener Demonstration Garden at the Chatham County Agricultural & Conference Center to see some cover crops and methods for planting and terminating. You will leave with some specific ideas about cover crops that can become your garden’s new best friend! \nCover crops are crops that are grown before or after the vegetable crop and not harvested as produce. Instead\, they are terminated by cutting or other methods and then left to decompose in the garden to help you build soil fertility\, improve soil structure\, reduce erosion\, suppress weeds\, and increase microbial activity and soil organic content. \nThis event is held indoors and is $12 per person. Free parking is available on the left side of the entrance to the Cooperative Extension office (red rocking chairs are located outside the entrance). Sorry – no pets allowed. DESCRIPTION:Chatham County Agriculture Agent Debbie Roos gives Pollinator Garden Tours of Chatham County Cooperative Extension’s Pollinator Paradise Demonstration Garden at Chatham Mills in Pittsboro. The garden features over 225 species of perennials\, trees\, shrubs\, vines\, and grasses\, with 85% of these being native to North Carolina. This is an excellent opportunity to visit the popular gathering spots for honeybees\, native bees\, butterflies\, hummingbirds\, and beneficial insects\, as well as their human admirers. \nThe garden is located in front of Chatham Marketplace at 480 Hillsboro Street\, Pittsboro\, NC 27312. Produced by Transitions LifeCare\, “An Act of Love: Talking with Your Family About Serious Illness and End of Life” is a 25-minute documentary that explores the lived experiences of individuals from Black\, African American\, Hispanic\, Latino\, and rural communities as they navigate hospice and palliative care. Drawing on the personal stories of people living in the Triangle area\, the film sheds light on common misconceptions and the cultural silence that often surrounds end-of-life care in these underserved communities. \nNarrated by Grammy-nominated jazz artist Nnenna Freelon\, the film amplifies a chorus of voices—families\, caregivers\, spiritual leaders\, and healthcare professionals—offering a compassionate and multifaceted view of this critical time in life. These stories are especially timely in light of findings from the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO)\, which show that Black Americans on Medicare are 13% less likely to use hospice and palliative care than their white counterparts—a disparity that underscores the urgent need for culturally sensitive outreach and education. \nThis free event is co-sponsored by heart2heartnc\, WEBB Squared\, El Vinculo Hispano/Hispanic Liaison\, and The Fenwick Foundation. DESCRIPTION:D&H RV & Marine hosts their Annual NC Truck Camper Rally on Thu\, Oct 30-Sun\, Nov 2\, 2025. Whether you’re a truck camper owner or enthusiast\, come enjoy the weekend at Jordan Lake State Recreation Area – Vista Point Access\, play games\, and learn from technicians through seminars. Activities include a ladies’ social\, time to show off your camper\, and the always popular bingo with prizes each evening. Since the rally falls on Halloween this year\, they’re also planning special games and events for Friday evening. \nRegistration cost covers the campsite for 3 nights\, meals provided from Friday dinner through Sunday breakfast\, and an event t-shirt. Additional Details: \n\nYou have the flexibility to arrive either Thursday evening or Friday at any time. Official rally events don’t begin until Friday late afternoon/evening.\nPlease note that if you wish to camp earlier in the week before the rally\, you will need to make your own arrangements through Jordan Lake State Park. Reservation line for Jordan Lake: 877.722.6762.\nChildren 18 and under may be registered for free and are already included in the couple/family ticket option.\nCampsites are first-come\, first-served. There are no reserved spots at Vista Point.\nThe campground features full electric and water hookups at each site\, along with a bathhouse and a dump station.\nPets are welcome at the campground.
