SUMMARY:Love Bird Scavenger Hunt at White Pines
DESCRIPTION:Join Triangle Land Conservancy for a Love Bird Scavenger Hunt in celebration of National Bird Feeding Month on Sat\, Feb 14\, and Sun\, Feb 15 at White Pines Nature Preserve. You’re invited to show your love for nature on Valentine’s Day weekend with a special outdoor scavenger hunt. Local pottery artist Courtney Pernell\, owner of Bayleaf market\, is a TLC supporter and is excited to merge her passions for trails\, nature\, and pottery to share that love with the wider community. Visitors to TLC’s seven public nature preserves can search for her handmade pottery “love birds” along the trails.  If you are lucky enough to find one\, it becomes TLC’s gift to you! They ask that once you find a pottery bird\, snap a picture of it on the trail and post it to Facebook or Instagram with the hashtags #hikeTLC and #pottercourt. Please limit your pottery gift to one per person. This fun event coincides with the Great Backyard Bird Count (Feb 13-16\, 2026)\, a global community science event that takes place each February and encourages people to observe and record bird sightings wherever they are. As you search for the clay creations\, you may also spot the real birds that call these spaces home.  \nThis free event takes place outdoors. See more Chatham Sports Alliance events. \nCURRENT MASK POLICY \nTLC seeks to build a supportive\, mask-friendly environment in all collaborations with staff and the public. DESCRIPTION:Join Friends of the Lower Haw River State Natural Area and Sean Higgins\, an Interpretation and Education Manager with NC State Parks\, for this Great Backyard Bird Count Stroll on Sat\, Feb 14\, 10am-11:30am. Learn some new bird identification skills or share some expertise with others. Anyone can participate in this nationwide citizen science project\, held every President’s Day weekend. You will observe bird study skins up close to practice observation skills. Then\, you’ll amble along the river and trails to conduct the bird count. Bring binoculars if you have them\, or they’ll have some you can borrow. Everyone is welcome\, from expert birders to absolute beginners. \nDIRECTIONS \nFrom US Hwy 15-501\, turn onto Durham-Eubanks Road. If coming from Chapel Hill\, this will be a left turn before the Haw River. If coming from Pittsboro\, this will be a right turn after crossing the Haw River. Follow Durham-Eubanks Road to the stop sign. Go straight at the stop sign and continue uphill on Bynum Church Road past the church and then downhill to the large State Parks parking lot on the right. \nThis event is free and open to the public. DESCRIPTION:You do not want to miss The Inn at Celebrity Dairy’s annual Open Barn hosted every Saturday\, Feb 14-Apr 18\, 12pm-5pm. This is a great opportunity to learn more about small farm life\, with plenty of fun for the whole family. The price is $10 per person at the gate\, with kids ages 2 and under receiving free admission. The Inn offers homemade lunch and other goodies for sale (including vegetarian options) for an additional cost. \nOpen Barns are rain or shine\, so if it’s cold\, make sure to bundle up\, and if it’s wet\, wear your boots! Most of the event takes place under cover (and the baby goats will help keep you warm)! Free parking is available on-site. No pets are allowed. \nBook a stay at the inn to get in on all the baby goat fun\, including daily baby bottle feedings! 2-hour private barn tours are also available throughout the season (February-April 2026). Celebrity Dairy will guide you through how to feed the goats and answer all your goat-related questions. Bookings are $225 for groups of up to 15 and $15 per additional guest. There is no fee to participate\, but donations are welcome. Adults are welcome\, and crafty teens may come solo. The camp store will be open during crafternoon sessions and by appointment through December and early January. All proceeds support camp scholarships. DESCRIPTION:Exploring Painting in Oil and Acrylics is designed to encourage students to explore new approaches to their current painting methods. The objective is to abandon judgment\, have fun\, and embrace discovery. The instructor will cover design/composition\, color mixing\, and mark-making while encouraging the simplification of detail to blur the boundaries between representation and abstraction and to see shapes without labels. Supplies are included. The Inn offers homemade lunch and other goodies for sale (including vegetarian options) for an additional cost. \nOpen Barns are rain or shine\, so if it’s cold\, make sure to bundle up\, and if it’s wet\, wear your boots! Most of the event takes place under cover (and the baby goats will help keep you warm)! Free parking is available on-site. No pets are allowed. \nBook a stay at the inn to get in on all the baby goat fun\, including daily baby bottle feedings! 2-hour private barn tours are also available throughout the season (February-April 2026). Celebrity Dairy will guide you through how to feed the goats and answer all your goat-related questions. Bookings are $225 for groups of up to 15 and $15 per additional guest.
