DESCRIPTION:At Felting and Fiber Arts Camp at Clapping Hands Farm\, hosted Mon\, Aug 18-Fri\, Aug 22\, 9am-3pm\, campers will develop skills in both needle felting and wet felting. A little bit of felting experience opens the door to a massive variety of projects… fun felted animals\, beads\, jewelry\, backpack charms\, patches\, decorations on clothing\, wall hangings\, pillows\, pouches and bags\, felted soaps\, and for more advanced felters – hats\, mittens\, slippers\, and more. This camp will also include opportunities to try other fiber arts projects such as knitting\, weaving\, crocheting\, mending\, sewing\, friendship bracelets\, kumihimo\, and embroidery. \nThe cost is $350 per person. Ages 10+ are welcome. Chatham County residents receive a $25 discount. There is a $25 discount for participants who register before January 31\, 2025. SUMMARY:Cool Season Vegetable Gardening
DESCRIPTION:Join Matt Jones\, Extension Horticulture Agent and NC State Extension Master Gardener Volunteers of Chatham County\, for a Cool Season Vegetable Gardening Workshop targeting home and community gardeners on how to grow cool-season vegetables. Participants will learn about planting techniques and timing\, best varieties\, common problems\, and harvesting methods for broccoli\, cabbage\, carrots\, kale\, lettuce\, onions\, peas\, potatoes\, and asparagus. Participants will also get a tour of the demonstration garden. \nVegetable crops are classified as either ‘warm-season’ or ‘cool-season’ according to their optimum planting time. Cool-season crops are generally planted in early fall to early spring because they do not tolerate the heat stress of the summer. However\, cool-season crops vary in the specific horticultural practices needed for optimum production. \nClasses occur Thu\, Aug 14\, 9:30am-11:30am in the Cooperative Extension wing of the Chatham County Agriculture & Conference Center. Twilight semi-private photo sessions are available following the festival for $75 per person. \nHuckleberry Trail Farm is conveniently located on Hwy 64 right between Pittsboro and Siler City\, just 30 minutes from Cary\, Apex\, Chapel Hill\, Durham\, and Greensboro.  It’s an easy drive over a shining lake and rushing river\, through the beautiful rolling country\, and past farmland complete with horses\, cows\, and red barns.

This program is free and open to the public. \nPhotographs have a unique ability to tell a story\, kindle emotions\, raise awareness\, and even inspire action. Experience the profound impact of nature photography both through observation of others’ work and by practicing nature photography yourself. Beyond creative expression\, photography has the power to draw people together. \nBates Whitaker\, Creative Content Manager at the North Carolina Wildlife Federation\, will discuss the importance of nature photography\, provide guidance on getting started\, and highlight strategies to avoid the pitfalls of unethical wildlife photography practices. Nature photography possesses the potential for a significant positive impact\, but unethical practices can also result in harm. Being well-informed about the wildlife and habitat you interact with is crucial\, as it directly affects their well-being. \nTopics covered include: \n\nEthics in Nature Photography.\nComposition techniques and practices.\nTips for sharing your work responsibly.\n\nThis program is part of the Lower Haw Presents lecture series hosted by Friends of Lower Haw River and is co-sponsored by the North Carolina Wildlife Federation and the NCWF Tri-County Conservationists Chapter.
