SUMMARY:Bald Eagle Search Paddle with Two Sisters Adventure Company
DESCRIPTION:Join Two Sisters Adventure Company for a Bald Eagle Search Paddle at Jordan Lake State Recreation Area\, hosted on select dates throughout 2026. Jordan Lake is one of the best Bald Eagle viewing locations in the region. You will paddle past multiple nesting areas in search of our majestic national bird. While sightings are not guaranteed\, Bald Eagles are most common in the areas they visit. Your guide will help you identify and answer questions about Bald Eagles and other birds in the area. All participants should have basic kayaking skills\, due to the duration on the water this trip is considered intermediate. Pre-registration is required. Participants will launch from the Farrington Point Access. The trip will last approximately 4 hours. Trips will take place on the following dates: \n\nThu\, Mar 26\, 9am-1pm.\nSun\, Apr 26\, 8:30am-12:30pm.\nSat\, May 9\, 8am-12pm.\nSat\, May 30\, 8am-12pm.\nSun\, Jun 7\, 8am-12pm.\n\nTwo Sisters works with all guests to make trips as accessible as possible. Please contact them with any specific accessibility requests so they can ensure they have all the necessary equipment and staff. Free parking is available at the Farrington Point Canoe Launch. No pets are allowed. The cost is $60 per person\, and pre-registration is required. Single-person kayaks are provided. DESCRIPTION:Join Triangle Land Conservancy for Birdsong and Blooms on Wed\, Mar 25\, 9am-11am at White Pines Nature Preserve. Meander with TLC Trail Guide Mary Abrams through White Pines Nature Preserve! The preserve will be filled with the songs of resident birds and early migrators as you discover the first blooms of spring on the cool slopes of the Deep and Rocky Rivers. You will hike over hilly terrain for about 2 miles as you immerse yourself in the pleasures of early spring. They recommend that you bring binoculars if you have them\, but they will have a few to borrow if you don’t. \nThis is a free event\, but registration is required. SUMMARY:Great Backyard Bird Count Stroll
DESCRIPTION:Join Friends of the Lower Haw River State Natural Area and Sean Higgins\, an Interpretation and Education Manager with NC State Parks\, for this Great Backyard Bird Count Stroll on Sat\, Feb 14\, 10am-11:30am. Learn some new bird identification skills or share some expertise with others. Anyone can participate in this nationwide citizen science project\, held every President’s Day weekend. You will observe bird study skins up close to practice observation skills. Then\, you’ll amble along the river and trails to conduct the bird count. Bring binoculars if you have them\, or they’ll have some you can borrow. Everyone is welcome\, from expert birders to absolute beginners. \nDIRECTIONS \nFrom US Hwy 15-501\, turn onto Durham-Eubanks Road. If coming from Chapel Hill\, this will be a left turn before the Haw River. If coming from Pittsboro\, this will be a right turn after crossing the Haw River. Follow Durham-Eubanks Road to the stop sign. Go straight at the stop sign and continue uphill on Bynum Church Road past the church and then downhill to the large State Parks parking lot on the right. \nThis event is free and open to the public. DESCRIPTION:Join Triangle Land Conservancy for a Love Bird Scavenger Hunt in celebration of National Bird Feeding Month on Sat\, Feb 14\, and Sun\, Feb 15 at White Pines Nature Preserve. You’re invited to show your love for nature on Valentine’s Day weekend with a special outdoor scavenger hunt. Local pottery artist Courtney Pernell\, owner of Bayleaf market\, is a TLC supporter and is excited to merge her passions for trails\, nature\, and pottery to share that love with the wider community. Visitors to TLC’s seven public nature preserves can search for her handmade pottery “love birds” along the trails.  If you are lucky enough to find one\, it becomes TLC’s gift to you! They ask that once you find a pottery bird\, snap a picture of it on the trail and post it to Facebook or Instagram with the hashtags #hikeTLC and #pottercourt. Please limit your pottery gift to one per person. This fun event coincides with the Great Backyard Bird Count (Feb 13-16\, 2026)\, a global community science event that takes place each February and encourages people to observe and record bird sightings wherever they are. As you search for the clay creations\, you may also spot the real birds that call these spaces home.  \nThis free event takes place outdoors.
