SUMMARY:Forest Tinkering Camp
DESCRIPTION:Forest Tinkering Camp at Sun Star Farm is a small group of 12 campers led by 2 counselors. Forest Tinkering Camp is very different from Tinkering School’s format.  Campers spend most of the day in the forest based in the camp’s new shelter\, learning and developing a variety of outdoor skills: flint-knapping to make arrowheads\, chopping wood for daily campfires used for cooking\, gathering native plants\, making fishing nets\, building a water filtration system\, whittling sticks into tools\, improving in archery\, and telling stories of yesteryear. As for projects\, they will be mostly individual.  Campers will need a certain level of maturity and be able to follow instructions to work and play safely in this environment. \nThey save 4 spots for girls during the registration period\, so they end up with a nice ratio of boys to girls.  If any of the “girl” spots are not taken by March 1st\, they open them to boys on the waitlist. There is a 6:1 counselor-to-camper ratio. This camp is for children ages 9-12. \nCamp is $499/week. Early care starts at 8am and is $35/week. SUMMARY:Forest Tinkering Camp
DESCRIPTION:Forest Tinkering Camp at Sun Star Farm is a small group of 12 campers led by 2 counselors. Forest Tinkering Camp is very different from Tinkering School’s format.  Campers spend most of the day in the forest based in the camp’s new shelter\, learning and developing a variety of outdoor skills: flint-knapping to make arrowheads\, chopping wood for daily campfires used for cooking\, gathering native plants\, making fishing nets\, building a water filtration system\, whittling sticks into tools\, improving in archery\, and telling stories of yesteryear. As for projects\, they will be mostly individual.  Campers will need a certain level of maturity and be able to follow instructions to work and play safely in this environment. \nThey save 4 spots for girls during the registration period\, so they end up with a nice ratio of boys to girls.  If any of the “girl” spots are not taken by March 1st\, they open them to boys on the waitlist. There is a 6:1 counselor-to-camper ratio. This camp is for children ages 9-12. \nCamp is $499/week. Early care starts at 8am and is $35/week. Aftercare runs from 3pm-5:30pm and is $125/week. A monthly payment plan is available at checkout. Pay only a $75 non-refundable deposit now to secure your spot. DESCRIPTION:Register now for GreenWood Wrights’Fest hosted Fri\, Oct 9 – Sun\, Oct 11\, 2026\, for a relaxing weekend of carving and camaraderie in Pittsboro\, NC. GreenWood Wrights’Fest is a semi-annual gathering of spoon carvers\, bowl turners\, chair makers\, basket weavers\, and toolsmiths united by a passion for crafting with traditional methods. The main festival features formal classes taught by renowned instructors\, while additional gatherings foster casual collaboration and community building. \nLearn new skills and techniques to enhance your greenwood craftsmanship at The Plant. Bring your hammock and best camping recipe\, and prepare to make some memories! The festival offers both beginner and advanced workshops on carving spoons\, as well as numerous other areas of green woodworking. Shorter classes for kids ages 10-14 will be offered on basic knife skills. The festival also features demonstrations that explore the history and culture of green woodworking\, tree identification\, splint harvesting\, tool sharpening\, and lathe turning. \nBasic facilities are provided\, but please note that this is a camping environment. Check the website for a list of recommended items to bring.
