DESCRIPTION:Join Starrlight Mead for Tending to the Heart on Sat\, Nov 1\, 7pm-8:30pm\, as part of The Road to Death Faire. In support of the 10th Annual Death Faire\, set aside sacred time to tend to your grieving heart. During this special event\, heart2heartnc offers the space to love fully\, grieve deeply\, and bring comfort to yourself and the community. Cathy Brooksie Edwards will lead you through a powerful journey of breathwork\, light movement\, and healing touch. As you travel the transformative spaces of the fall season\, musicians Amy Durso\, Lolly Dunlap\, Sheila Fleming\, and special guests Will Ridenour and Richard Edwards will provide a soulful soundscape. Hands-on healers will be present to provide light energy work during the soundscape’s rest period. \nPlease bring your own yoga mat\, water\, a blanket\, and any props that support your comfort as you relax in the stillness of your tender heart. Chairs will be available. Feel free to arrive several minutes early to prepare your spot and settle into your sacred space for participation. This free community event at Starrlight does not require advanced registration. Tax-deductible donations are welcome and support the ongoing work of heart2heartnc as they bring needed healing to the community. DESCRIPTION:Join Bynum Front Porch for the Susie Crate and Joe Newberry Show on Sat\, Nov 1\, 7pm-8:30pm. Susie and Joe have been playing and singing together since the early 80s. They performed together in The Piedmont Hepcats (along with Ted Ehrhard and Allen Cottrell) and in The Radio Rangers (with Carl Jones and Nowell Creadick). They now reunite to sing old songs and share some new ones. \nDirections. See more Bynum Front Porch events. \nARTIST BIOS \nSusie Crate likes to think she has come full circle in her storytelling and singing. After a decade of singing and storytelling in the Piedmont Triangle from the early 1980s to the early 1990s\, Susie began traversing the globe\, mainly in the direction of Siberia\, where she ultimately built an academic career researching cultural adaptations to change overall and specifically to climate change. Now she has returned to her home in Bynum to begin the next chapter of her life\, bringing stories and songs both old and new. \nKnown around the world for his clawhammer banjo playing\, Joe Newberry is also an influential guitarist\, singer\, and songwriter. The Gibson Brothers’ version of his song “Singing As We Rise\,” featuring guest vocalist Ricky Skaggs\, won an  IBMA “Gospel Recorded Performance” Award. With Eric Gibson\, he shared an IBMA “Song of the Year” Award for “They Called It Music.” A longtime and frequent guest on A Prairie Home Companion\, he was a featured singer on the Transatlantic Sessions 2016 tour of the U.K. with fiddler Aly Bain and Dobro master Jerry Douglas\, and at the Transatlantic Session’s debut at Merlefest in 2017.  In addition to performing solo\, he plays in a duo with mandolin icon Mike Compton\, and also performs with the dynamic fiddler and step-dancer April Verch.”

The reflections shimmer on the Haw River below\, ripples of firelight dancing downstream while the night hums with laughter\, music\, and crickets. \nAnd don’t worry about supper… Dan’s Dogs will be right there\, serving up hot dogs\, while Tacos Paraiso fills the air with the smell of the very best burritos in the state of North Carolina. Grab a paper plate\, fill your belly\, and wander back to the bridge as the pumpkins take over the night. So come on out as the sun sets. Bring your pumpkin\, bring your people\, and watch the glow spread across the water. Drawing on the personal stories of people living in the Triangle area\, the film sheds light on common misconceptions and the cultural silence that often surrounds end-of-life care in these underserved communities. \nNarrated by Grammy-nominated jazz artist Nnenna Freelon\, the film amplifies a chorus of voices—families\, caregivers\, spiritual leaders\, and healthcare professionals—offering a compassionate and multifaceted view of this critical time in life. These stories are especially timely in light of findings from the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization (NHPCO)\, which show that Black Americans on Medicare are 13% less likely to use hospice and palliative care than their white counterparts—a disparity that underscores the urgent need for culturally sensitive outreach and education. \nThis free event is co-sponsored by heart2heartnc\, WEBB Squared\, El Vinculo Hispano/Hispanic Liaison\, and The Fenwick Foundation. DESCRIPTION:Join the Chatham Community Library for an Author Event with Kamal Bell on Sat\, Oct 25\, 2pm-3pm. Meet author Kamal Bell\, founder of Sankofa Farms and a food justice\, youth education\, and sustainable agriculture advocate. He will be reading from his book\, “Akeem Keeps Bees”\, a children’s book inspiring young readers to explore agriculture and pollinator conservation. \nThis FREE\, family-friendly event is open to the public. No registration is required. The event will take place indoors in the Chatham Community Library’s Holmes Family Meeting Room. The Chatham Community Library is ADA-compliant\, including wheelchair-accessible parking\, entrances\, seating\, common spaces\, walkways\, and restrooms. The Holmes Family Meeting Room has an automatic door opener. Free parking is available outside the library. Neighbors gather and the community shines at this family-friendly event featuring over 100 vendors\, live music\, a Trike Race\, and family entertainment.  \nThe Pittsboro Street Fair is the Rotary Club of Pittsboro’s largest fundraiser\, enabling it to continue its year-round support of our Chatham community. Admission is free\, and proceeds support the Rotary initiatives\, including local food drives\, school supplies for local schools\, Meals on Wheels\, scholarships for students\, and more. The club uses Postal Fish Company as its headquarters and VIP area.
