SUMMARY:Color Run & Walk at George Moses Horton
DESCRIPTION:The George Moses Horton PTSA is proud to present the 2nd Annual Color Run & Walk on Sat\, Apr 1\, 9am-11am\, which takes place at the George Moses Horton Middle School campus. \nNot to be mistaken for a race\, the GMH Color Run & Walk is a fun\, inclusive community activity where participants complete laps around the school at their own pace\, getting dusted with colored corn starch at color stations. Cheer on your favorite runners/walkers\, while kids enjoy the bounce house\, DJ\, and booths with community partners. \nAfter one\, three and five laps\, participants may enter into raffles for student-or adult-oriented prizes. The starting line is by the Boys & Girls Club building. Just above it is their “midway” – usually the bus lot – featuring an inflatable and the sounds of DJ Jorge Blanco. \nCommunity members may register online here. Participants may also register on-site between 9am and 9:45am on the day of the race. Register for each participant\, one at a time. Only registrations received by Mar 10 will be guaranteed a free T-shirt and color packet. Remember to save your color packet so you can blast your friends with color at the start of the event! \nTheir goal as the George Moses Horton PTSA is to raise $10\,000 which\, among other things\, will fund water filtration stations\, playground updates\, teacher appreciation and classroom supplies. \nInterested in becoming an event sponsor? If there is a class of interest to you that they have not yet scheduled\, please contact them at sales@twinbirchproducts.com. \nSat\, Jun 17\, 11am-4pm Saori and Freestyle Weaving\nEnjoy the ease and comfort of weaving Saori-style!  This “no rules” style of weaving allows for designing in the reed\, meaning you will create without a plan and design as you go – freestyle!  Focus on color\, texture\, spontaneity and experimentation\, resulting in a completely unique scarf\, wall hanging\, or table runner. Techniques will include: looping\, alternative selvages\, double and triple interlocking weft\, floats\, inlay\, knots\, inserts\, slit and windows. \nPrerequisites (weaving experience): Ability to warp your own loom independently\, unless renting a pre-warped loom from the instructor. Bring your own warped loom.  Any type of loom will be welcome. Or\, rent a Saori loom for $25 (a limited number of studio looms will be available). To add loom rental\, go to the loom rental image at the bottom of this page and click “Add to cart”. \nPlease bring scissors\, tapestry needle\, and your warped loom with plenty of weft yarns and fibers for your project.  A sharing basket will be provided for sharing bits and pieces of “treasures” if you would like to contribute some interesting bits of special yarns for pops of color along the way.  An assortment of additional weft materials will be available for sale. \nBring your lunch\, beverages will be provided. The cost of this class is $125 per person.

Get your advance tickets for $10 or purchase at the door for $15 (if not sold out). \nThey will have a variety of chef-prepared\, mouthwatering seafood (and non-seafood) options available for purchase\, including Maine-style lobster rolls and chilled lobster salad\, oysters on the half shell\, crabcake sandwiches\, lemonade shrimp\, and Carolina-style BBQ spare ribs. Sides like plantain chips with pico\, grilled shishito peppers\, hushpuppies\, and corn on the cob will round out your meal. Quench your thirst with beer\, wine\, and summery cocktails – like mojitos and watermelon margaritas – from the cash bar. Sweets will be offered from their dessert truck partners. \nChildren under 12 enter for free\, but please leave your furry friends home. Doors open at 2pm\, with music by The Castaways starting at 3pm. Lawn games and activities will be available for added enjoyment. Seating will be provided inside and out\, but folding chairs and blankets are also welcome. Space is limited\, so secure your advance tickets today. Rain or shine\, the festival will proceed with indoor accommodations if needed. Please note your ticket is for entry and band cover. Food and drinks are available for purchase.
