DESCRIPTION:Join The Plant for Live Music with Chosen Family Card on Sun\, May 18\, 1pm-4pm. \nChosen Family Card emerged from the pandemic when a married couple\, Aaron (lead guitar) and Julie Keane (lead vocals) and their best friend\, Deborah Usinger (violin) played music and joined an online community open mic series so that they wouldn’t go stir crazy! What began as music sessions to break the monotony of lockdown quickly evolved into something more —a rock and pop cover band that celebrates the bonds we choose rather than inherit. The band is now joined by good friend Dan Radzicki on bass and our neighbor\, Dale Hammer\, on drums. \nThere is no cover for music\, but tips for the musicians are encouraged. Most events are rain or shine; if they are in a position of having to cancel\, they will try to do so well in advance. SUMMARY:Create Your Own Artisan Sterling Silver Earrings
DESCRIPTION:In Create Your Own Artisan Sterling Silver Earrings on Sun\, May 18\, 1pm-5pm\, you’ll learn metal smithing techniques and use hand tools to design and create three pairs of unique sterling silver earrings (two from sterling silver wire and one using sterling silver sheet). Hammers\, stamps\, and other tools will be used to texture the surfaces and bend and shape the earrings. You will also learn how to make ear wires and jump rings. \nAges 15+ are welcome. No experience is necessary. There are five open seats for this class\, and the price is $150 per person. The classroom is located in the back of the Pittsboro Gallery of Arts in downtown Pittsboro. Parking is free on the street and in the back of the building. The instructor\, Pam Freese\, will provide all materials\, equipment\, and bottled water. After Maria Rouphail and Joan Barasovska read from their new books\, they will discuss their beloved craft: their influences\, their work\, and poetry in today’s world. \nBOOK SUMMARY \nUnblessed\, Unsung\, a deeply researched history of the author’s mother’s family in Philadelphia\, is an immigrant story\, a World War II story\, and a study in poetry of a complicated woman. \nthis small house\, this big sky\, her fourth poetry collection\, explores themes of family trauma and reconciliation\, as well as those forces affecting women and the environment.  \nABOUT THE AUTHOR \nJoan Barasovska serves on the Board of the North Carolina Poetry Society and hosts a poetry series at McIntyre’s Books. Her poems have been nominated for Best of the Net and three times for a Pushcart Prize. Joan is the author of Birthing Age (Finishing Line Press\, 2018)\, Carrying Clare (Main Street Rag\, 2022)\, Orange Tulips (Redhawk Publications\, 2022)\, and Unblessed\, Unsung (Main Street Rag\, 2025).  \nMaria Rouphail is a Senior Lecturer Emerita from North Carolina State University. Rouphail’s previous collections include Apertures and Second Skin. All the Way to China\, her third collection\, was a 2020 finalist in both the University of Wisconsin Brittingham Poetry and the Blue Light Press competitions. Poetry editor at The Main Street Rag\, and currently serving as the Gilbert-Chappell Distinguished Poet for Central North Carolina (2024-25)\, Rouphail lives in Raleigh. \nFearrington Village is part of the Chatham County Craft Beverages & Country Inns Trail. DESCRIPTION:During Spring 2025 Session\, Kim McCullough\, the Artist and Founder of ArtzHub\, will guide young art enthusiasts step-by-step through the process of drawing in black permanent marker on acid-free white art paper. With Kim’s skilled\, compassionate guidance\, your children will learn to draw animals\, people\, food\, flowers\, insects\, landmarks\, architecture\, mythical/magical creatures\, and more. When the drawing is complete\, students will enjoy learning how to use different media to finish their drawings: marker\, colored pencil\, watercolor paint\, oil pastel\, and chalk pastel\, as well as fun ways to combine different media. \nClasses occur every Tuesday\, Apr 8-May 27\, 5pm-6pm. The fee for this class is $162 per person. Ages 5-11 and 11 months are welcome.
