Fire on the Beach explores the dangers of 19th-century coastal transportation along North Carolina’s “Graveyard of the Atlantic\,” where ships carrying goods and people faced constant danger. Through the story of Richard Etheridge and the all-black crew of the US Life-Saving Service\, the crew faced discrimination and the dangers of the Atlantic\, yet rose to heroism in their service. The class will cover bonsai styles\, design\, pruning\, wiring\, container selection\, potting\, and care. He has over 40 years of experience\, has trained with many gifted international bonsai artists\, and enjoys sharing this “growing art” with others. And the journey west is only the beginning… When tragedy strikes\, Louisa and her brother-in-law\, Isaac\, must build a farm alone on virgin land\, enduring backbreaking labor\, shared grief\, and impossible moral choices. This time of day is the most beautiful as the sun pours in at a low angle\, casting shadows and silhouettes. Your group will tour the greenhouses and ask questions about orchid cultivation. Make a reservation in Pittsboro for later in the evening – consider West End Kitchen & Catering\, The Sycamore at Chatham Mills\, Cafe Root Cellar\, or The Beagle\, to name a few of many options. This event is bring-your-own-beverage – consider stopping by and picking something up from one of our craft beverage makers. Sunset times change throughout the year\, so if this time and day do not work for your group\, please contact them with a time that works for you so they can accommodate you. \nThe tour and class take about an hour and a half.
