Their destination is the Black Hawk Purchase\, a wild\, unsettled expanse along the Mississippi\, soon to be called Iowa. And the journey west is only the beginning… When tragedy strikes\, Louisa and her brother-in-law\, Isaac\, must build a farm alone on virgin land\, enduring backbreaking labor\, shared grief\, and impossible moral choices. She has served as Associate Editor at Algonquin Books of Chapel Hill\, fiction editor at Southern Exposure and DoubleTake Magazines\, and fiction and poetry editor of the St. Andrews Review. She is currently an editor with the North Carolina Writers’ Network’s Critique and Editing Service. Shop\, wander\, and enjoy food and drinks from The Plant businesses throughout the day – grab coffee from Metal Brixx and Brunch at Ta Contento. Find vintage\, antiques\, secondhand goods\, jewelry\, furniture\, rugs\, lamps\, tools\, and oddities. \nThink cafe meets flea market\, meets arts and crafts\, meets Facebook market. It’s meant to be a gathering spot for children and dogs and a little neighbor-to-neighbor trading. You might also see some local produce pop up from Little Pond Gardens and other tenants! \nThe vendor fee is $15 – you can apply here. Free and convenient parking. Free entry. Fully accessible. Family\, kid\, and leashed pet friendly. \nMost events are rain or shine; if they have to cancel\, they will do so as far in advance as possible. Leashed\, well-behaved pets are allowed outside; pet policies indoors vary by individual business. The Plant is accessible to guests and will do its best to accommodate any additional requests. DESCRIPTION:Join For Garden’s Sake for Introduction to the Art of Bonsai. This engaging class is for those interested in learning about this fascinating horticultural art form. The class and hands-on workshop will teach the aesthetic aspects of classical bonsai\, as well as the technical and horticultural fundamentals you’ll need to enjoy this wonderful hobby. The class will cover bonsai styles\, design\, pruning\, wiring\, container selection\, potting\, and care. Classes are held on the following dates: \n\nSat\, Apr 18\, 10am-2pm.\nSat\, May 16\, 10am-2pm.\n\nInstructor Ken Hallatt is a bonsai artist\, educator\, and owner of Carolina Bonsai. He has over 40 years of experience\, has trained with many gifted international bonsai artists\, and enjoys sharing this “growing art” with others. He was previously the President of the Triangle Bonsai Society. \nThe fee for this class is $85 per person and includes all workshop materials you’ll need to create your very own bonsai\, an introductory bonsai book\, a detailed aftercare guide for your new tree\, and light hors d’oeuvres. Payment at the time of registration is required to hold your spot. Registration without payment will be disregarded. This event takes place indoors at The Robin’s Nest.
